Garden Mania Begins...

This is my front garden and porch (well, this is what it looked like last year). Right now it looks awful. I raked off all of the leaves and cleaned out all of the debris from last year, but my plants are just starting to come up, so all you see now is bare earth and stubs. But something beautiful is on its way.
In my neighborhood, it's all about your yard and garden and let me tell you...the ladies are always scoping each other out.
There are quite a few retired ladies on my circle and they spend all day in their gardens. I work and have kids, so I really scramble to keep my little part of the neighborhood looking nice.
There is never a negative comment or anything spoken that would lead you to believe that there was a competition for the best flowers going on...but let me tell you...there is. And those senior ladies mean business. : )
But they can bring it on this summer, because I'm ready for them : )
*On a side note. I would like some new patio furniture this year. It is difficult because my patio is not covered and we live on a lake, so there is always moisture and usually quite a bit of rain. I can't put anything out with cushions because once they are wet, they are wet for days. Wood is also an issue, no matter what I do, eventually the moisture gets to it and it discolors and decays. So, I'm limited to plastic or something that will dry out quickly.

Just beautiful! Love your hosta...we have a lot of it too and it's one of my favorites. This time of the year is so great to me, getting the garden all ready. :)

Your garden looks beautiful!
I envy you - all this gorgeous weather we've been having and no garden to work in. Oh well, I guess I can just dream about next year and life vicariously through other gardeners like you.

We have had a snow for the past four days. I'm jealous.

I can't wait to see your beautiful garden! Last year we had snake problems. I'm TERRIFIED of snakes. So...you can imagine what didn't get done in my yard. I took Lauren out yesterday to try and get some photos and thought our yard looked horrible. I came back inside to the white walls. I'm going to buy the flowers and send hubby out to plant them this year. heehee

Our road is the same and most people are retired so have tons of time to take care of their lawns and flowerbeds.
I try my best to keep up too!
Anywhoo I am writing to you today as this is the first day Zoe put on her "everyone loves a brown eyed girl" t-shirt that you gave her.
She looks totally adorable, if it's still clean after a day in daycare I'll take a piccy later!
Thanks again.

Love your garden and porch, it looks very relaxing.

I always feel the competition to keep the yard looking nice too, and sadly, I'm not doing so great! Ever year, it looks a little nicer though. My perrineals are building.

I am thinking Miss Steff and I would love to come sit on your porch and sip on iced tea and watch you tend to the flowers. As we are asking you to again fill our glasses because we are thirsty we may be kind enough to point out any weeds you need to pull too.
If you are extra nice to us maybe just maybe we could even water the flowers that are right next to us.After all you would not want us to tire ourselfs out. That would me we would need more to drink.
LOLOLOLOL.Looks like it is the perfect place to unwind and relax.

super fun to be able to finally get outside some and feel the fresh air and the warm sun ...i saw the cutest hot pink plastic beach looking chairs ... i want them so bad for my pool but scott says they would look tacky ... i say chic ... we will have to fight it out a while before we see who wins ... DON'T LET THOSE SENIOR LADIES GET YA !!!

Your garden is beautiful!!!

(BTW there's something to be said for durable patio furniture. My son just this week managed to bust the seat strap on our patio loveseat with a soccer ball!?)

Love your garden!! I am in awe of people who can grow beautiful flowers & plants as I have a "black thumb"...seriously, I even killed a cactus. :( I guess there's a reason why I'm in the concrete garden. ;)

Heh. Don't be messing with the Senior Green Thumbs! Those ladies mean business!

Your garden is beautiful and relaxing, and there are enough chairs for each of us -- I call the middle one!

Wasn't it fun to see sweet Katie on the screen at church!

I love the look! I have huge hostas, too. I don't do as many pots as I used to. Too much work to water them all.
Your siding is awesome, too.
Senior ladies have the years but your thumb is definitely green!
