Welcome to the Saturday Morning Chat Group!

Good Morning Everone! Welcome to the Saturday Morning Chat Group. I want to thank everyone who is participating in the Starfish Supply Raiser. It has been an incredible experiencee for myself and my family.
Earlier this week we received a box of donations and my son Tyler became a little emotional about it. He said, " Mom, one person can make a difference in the world can't they?" And I told him, "Yes they can." "The people sending these clothes are making a difference". I was so proud to see my son understanding what this was all about.
We're going to have a lot of fun this weekend. Tonight we are celebrating Chinese New Year by meeting Steffie and her family at our favorite Chinese restaurant for the Emperor's 10 Course Dinner. We are very excited about that. Our families will be able to meet each other.

Sorry to hear about Zach's girl troubles. He is such a handsome boy that I am sure he has a slew of girls waiting for him to open himself up to the possibilities. Poor guy.

Our Yaris is a light blue color. We're excited, but hope we didn't get a lemon. :)

Have a great weekend Gail!

redmaryjanes said...

Good Morning Lea,
How are you?

redmaryjanes said...

K1, I don't think you will get a lemon. Toyota's have an excellent reputation and our Camry is a wonderful car. We love it so far and their dealerships take great care of you.

Happily, I'll send you an invite. I need your address (which you can delete later if you'd like). OR email me at journeytokatie@comcast.net and I'll send you the invite that way.

I've got four boys (my three plus another one) for the next 10 days, plus one 2 year old girl. And guess which of those five kids is undeniably IN CHARGE?

redmaryjanes said...

Lea,
I'll take a lot of photos and post them!

Amy,
Some of the people on the CCAI WCP group are talking about doing a day trip to the Atlanta zoo. If you want the details, when they figure out what they are doing, I'll let you know.

Margaret,
I missed that 20/20 what was it about?

OH I love you all but I have to go sleep so I can function tonight..Thanks for being here.

if you can please cheer him up today over at www.valtool.blogspot.cp,

Bye Amy..
I will stop by his blog..

redmaryjanes said...

KIM at Bison,

I JUST GOT AN E-MAIL FROM YOUR SECRET BUDDY AND HER GIFT TO YOU THIS MONTH IS A BLOG MAKE-OVER.

SHE WANTS TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THAT AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE HER TO ARRANGE THAT FOR YOU?

LET ME KNOW.

Truly Blessed said...

Kim,

I'm right there with you with the laundry blues. Having three teenage boys is rough on the old septic system. And I wash all of Katie's clothes seperately in Dreft, so it seems like I'm forever doing laundry.

I wouldn't trade it for anything though.

Truly Blessed said...

Darn...I should have signed up for the Secret Buddy thing.

redmaryjanes said...

Amy,
I will try to check on your hubs. Hug him for me.

Kim said...

I need 2 washers and 2 dryers...LOL..
I am ready for the little Izzy to come.. I will do 100 loads a week..just to have her in my arms...

Kim said...

You can still sign up with Kimberley for the Secret Buddy program... I THINK...
It is GREAT..

redmaryjanes said...

KIM,
Did you see my post? Do you want the make-over?

20/20 was about the little girl Anna Mae. Quick summary. She is was born in America to Chinese parents. Her father was a student and her mother worked but were unmarried when they had her. They were having trouble caring for her and the Bakers, a family from Tennessee took over her care. The Chinese family signed over rights but state that they did not know what they were signing. After Anna Mae lived with the Bakers for something like 4 years, custody was returned to her birth families (lots of court room drama in those 4 years). When living with the Bakers, Anna Mae became very close to her sister. The two families worked it out so the girls could still see each other and they continued to spend lots of time together. This week, the Chinese family along with Anna Mae returned to China after the parents work visas expired. I just can't imagine what this child is experiencing....that is a really short version of the story.

Nancy said...

Good Morning All...
I am going to try to catch up.

Kelley said...

Speaking of laundry...you should see the shirt that Tom bought Chloe yesterday. I took some pictures of her this morning, and just posted them on my blog. This is one particular Daddy who shouldn't shop for clothes. LOL!

BTW, I think I'm going to try to set up my "by invitation only" status today. It makes me crazy that you can do a broad "google" search for any one of 10,000 topics and access my blog. So, if anyone new wants an invite, let me know. (I'm going to send out invites later today to everyone who's email I already have.)

redmaryjanes said...

Oh Margaret,
That is so sad. That is why domestic adoption scares me. I don't want anyone taking my baby back.

redmaryjanes said...

Good Morning Nancy!
How are you and the boys? Hubs too.

redmaryjanes said...

Kelley,
I went over to see Chloe's shirts and they are too funny. I can definitely tell that her Dad picked those out!

Truly Blessed said...

But the Anna Mae He story ISN'T about domestic adoption. The He's never intended to release Anna Mae for adoption. The Bakers, I think, took advantage of the He's ignorance and lack of understanding to keep Anna Mae for themselves.

That poor child has gone through enough. Now she is going to China -- and is completely terrified about doing so. The Baker's should have given Anna Mae back the first time the He's petitioned for her. They created this mess. It's awful.

Kim said...

Kelley~ Chloe is adorable.. LOVE the shirt...
Kim~ I sent you an email..

Truly Blessed said...

Kelley, of course I want in. Do you have my email address?

A Mom- In-W8ing said...

Kelly, I would like to wager a guess that you just might have a 2 year old boss in your house, lol!! Looking forward to seeing that little cutie on your blog!

Nancy said...

The boys are well...
The Hubs and I tried to sleep in this morning, but it is near impossible when they are up at 6:17 tearing around the house.

CRAZY!!!

Margaret M said...

Anna Mae is definitely the victim in this story and the video footage of her transitions is just heartbreaking. I can't imagine what she has been through.

Truly Blessed said...

a mom- in-w8ing, sorry, what is your name?

I need your email address to send you an invite to Katie's blog. As soon as you give it to me, I'll send you the invite.

Kelley said...

No, Kelly, I don't. You can email it to me if you like at kapow1969@yahoo.com. Or leave it here in the comments; whichever you like. :) That goes for anyone else here, too!

Truly Blessed said...

Kelley,

It's journeytokatie@comcast.net

I tried leaving you a comment just now, but I don't think it went through. The shirts are cute and funny!

But do you ever wonder about some things people put on their children? I honestly saw a baby in a onesie once that said, "I'm here because my parents like to F***" Not kidding. How awful.

redmaryjanes said...

Kelly,
That is appalling. I can't believe someone would put that on a baby.

A Mom- In-W8ing said...

Kelly, I did send an email a little bit ago. Let me know if you don't get it and I will send you another one.
~Nikki

Margaret M said...

Kelly,

I am also shocked that someone put that on a baby. What are people thinking?

Marla said...

Morning ladies! Y'all are chatty this morning, hehe, took me a while to catch up. :)

Margaret M said...

Ladies,

It has been a pleasure but I really need to go. Lily is wanting Lily/Mommy time. Now that she is feeling better we might get to do something fun today. Have a great week!

redmaryjanes said...

Good Morning Marla! How are you?

redmaryjanes said...

Have a great weekend Margaret, thanks for coming by.

redmaryjanes said...

Kelly,

Where is your sister?

Marla said...

I'm great Kimberley, just gearing up for a busy Saturday. We have a lion dance to attend, followed by a birthday party, then a wedding and finally a fundraiser tonight. I'm tired just thinking about it.

Sorry I didn't get my package out yet, I was really hoping to already have it there. When are you planning to mail the goodies?

Kim said...

Okay... Well , I am going to start cleaning house... we are going to be leaving in a little while...
Have fun tonight Kimberley with Steffie... I wish I lived near you guys...
Hugs to you all..
BYE everyone..
I so enjoyed talking today ~
Have a Great Weekend..

redmaryjanes said...

Marla,
I am collecting for Stafish all month long, so worry about getting your box here. As long as it arrives by months end, it will be fine.
Wow, you guys are really busy today.
Tonight we are going to a CNY dinner.

redmaryjanes said...

Have a great weekend Kim!

Truly Blessed said...

Kimberley, K1 is at a church retreat this weekend.

About the comments on clothing thing, I am often appalled at what people put on their kids. The example I used is in-your-face, but there are also plenty of more subtle nasties out there.

I hate it when little girls wear clothing that put down boys "Boys are Stupid" comes to mind. I know that parents want to build little girls' self-eseteem, but I hate it when the clothes they purchase try to accomplish that by tearing boys down.

I know I'm very sensitive to this because I have three sons, and I cringe when I see things like that.

Another thing, while I'm perched up here on my soapbox, is that so many teenage girls dress completely inappropriately (think shrinkwrapped) at school. How is my teenage son supposed to concentrate on calculus when the girl next to him is wearing TIGHT skimpy tops with words stretched across the chest, and words on her butt? This drives me crazy.

My son, while playing basketball, is constantly pulling his oversized shorts DOWN if so much of a glimpse of his knee shows as he's running down the court. Girls, on the other hand, are wearing bikini bottoms to play volleyball. What in the world is going on? How can a uniform go completely against school dress policy and still be worn? Crazy, I tell you.

It would be awful to be a teenage boy in school these days.

Marla said...

How fun, with Steffie right? I'm jealous that so many of you get together!

Kim said...

Kimberley~ I will let you know Monday about the donations ...

redmaryjanes said...

Wow Ladies!
A package just came from Dannye at LayDFrog.

Kelley said...

Kelly, I agree with you completely. And I especially hate clothes with words on the butt. It bugs me when even little bitty girls wear shorts or pants with "cutie" right across the butt. Why on Earth would you want to invite people to stare?

Truly Blessed said...

Some girl at my sons' school was wearing something with a word on the butt. My son read it. She caught him and called him a "pervert" for looking at her butt.

Excuse me? Apparently he wasn't the person she wanted to look at her butt.

BTW, he says most of the girls at school dress like "sluts" -- his word, not mine. I don't disagree with him, from what I see.

redmaryjanes said...

Steffie, Kelly and I all live close to each other and we try to get together monthly if we can. Kelly has a scheduling conflict or she would be at the dinner tonight too.
I wish that all of you lived close by. It would be the best support group ever.

Truly Blessed said...

Cool, Kimberley, can you share what the goodies are?

Marla said...

Oh my gosh, Kelley, I totally agree! My FIL and his wife bought my girls these little Bratz outfits that said "BRATZ" really big right on the bum. UGH! I let them wear the shirts (though I am not a Bratz fan AT ALL), but there was no way they were leaving the house in the shorts.

redmaryjanes said...

I will miss K1 this week.
I agree that the dress attire for girls is completely unacceptable. I see things that blow my mind and the girls Mom is standing right beside her. Why wear a skirt if your underwear still shows? What's the point? Why wear a shirt if I can see most of your bra anyway?
It's nuts.

Marla said...

It must be like Christmas every day getting those packages! How fun to see what's inside for those sweet babies.

Truly Blessed said...

Sadly, ladies, we are in the minority about the girl's dress.

And women STILL have the nerve to complain that girls and women are treated as s-ex objects, and not taken seriously. Sheesh.

It is pretty funny to see the kids at the high school. The boys all wear XXL clothing that is just hanging off them, and most of the girls are wearing shrinkwrap.

redmaryjanes said...

Yes I can..
6 girls onesies with darling saying on them like, My First Smile.
3 boys onesies with dogs and wagons on them and 4 boys t-shirts
And a very generous donation to the postage fund.

redmaryjanes said...

I will tell you that I cried when I opened yesterday's box. I just can't believe how generous everyone is and how many families have signed on to help. It really is nothing short of a miracle.

Marla said...

You're right Kimberley, it really is hard to find appropriate clothing for little girls. When Jacey started wearing the 7-14 sizes, I couldn't believe some of what I was seeing.

Truly Blessed said...

Alrighty, it's time for me to get a move on and face the day.

I so loved hanging out with all of you today.

Tonight we have the CAWM CNY gala, and my freshman son is going to the Swirl at school with his two best friends (a guy and a girl). I hate to miss seeing them, but we have early dinner reservations at Yen Ching (!) and then the Gala.

Have a wonderful weekend!

A Mom- In-W8ing said...

Kelley & Kelly, thanks for letting me follow your blogs. Finding new blogs to read is always fun. You both are very fortunate to have such lovely little girls to call you Mom. I look forward to joining your ranks someday!

Marla said...

That's awesome Kimberley! I have always found the adoption community to be especially giving. I know we'll never adopt again, but I will spend the rest of my life doing whatever I can to help babies/children in China. I think I left part of my heart there.

redmaryjanes said...

KELLY! You are going to Yen Ching!!!!

Kelley said...

Bye, Kelly! Have fun today!

Kelley said...

You know, one day we'll have to find some way to have a face-to-face Saturday morning chat...wouldn't that be fun?!?!? I would love to really meet everybody!

Marla said...

Ooooh, that would be fun! Of course, the sight of me first thing in the morning might scare people off! LOL!

A Mom- In-W8ing said...

Kelly, I just watched the "Consider Adoption" Video. LOVE IT!! That song always makes me weepy. Thanks for sharing!

Have a good weekend!!

redmaryjanes said...

I would love it if we could all find a centralized place to meet. I think it would be amazing.

Truly Blessed said...

Yeah, I'm really going, but we are going to Yen Ching at 5:30 (the gala is from 7:00 - 9:00), so we'll have an hour for dinner. We're not doing the Emperor's 10 course dinner, so it should be do-able!

We're taking our 7th grader and his best friend (a girl!) who is also a 7th grader and Katie. Not sure how much we'll be able to enjoy (Katie's not known for her patience!) but we're looking forward to it.

Check my blog late tonight or tomorrow for pictures of Katie in her Kimberley dress!

I'm really leaving now....Bye!

Marla said...

Oh hehe, I thought you meant like a video chat! In person would definitely be fun. Some of the members of one of the Yahoo groups we waited with get together every year for a shopping trip in Chicago. I'd love to do something like that, I've just never been able to make it fit in the schedule.

Kim N Jeff said...

Good morning everyone!

redmaryjanes said...

We could do Chicago pretty easily .

A Mom- In-W8ing said...

"A face-to-face Saturday morning chat" - sure that could be interesting ... or maybe in my case, SCARY!! I woke up and have been on the computer ever since. Here I sit with PJ's still on, hair not done and no make up! What a sight!

But that was my plan for this morning and I have so enjoyed getting to chat with you all. I have to get ready to go do a little shopping and then head off to a family get together tonight. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and an even better week, see you next Saturday … same time, same place!

Smiles! :o)
Nikki

Have a great week Nikki!

Bye Marla. I will be checking your blog later. Have a great weekend!

Chicago is quite a trip for us, but we love it up there. We try to make it up once a year for a Cubbies game (my dh is a HUGE Cubs fan).

redmaryjanes said...

Hi there anonymous, who are you? Welcome to the Sat Chat!

redmaryjanes said...

Marla,
I just want to tell you that your daughters are so beautiful!

A Mom- In-W8ing said...

I wonder why my comment just showed up as annon.? Weird!! Anyway Marla, I left the comment, just wanted to let you know.

redmaryjanes said...

That's ok.
I just want to make sure that I greet anyone new. I have overlooked people before and felt awful. Sometimes it gets crazy on here and it's really hard to see all of the comments that come in.

Marla said...

Thanks Kimberley, they're a handful, but I wouldn't want them any other way. :)

Hehe, Nikki! No problem, I figured that was you. I've bookmarked your blog, too.

redmaryjanes said...

It will probably start to get buys soon when the California people wake up.

redmaryjanes said...

Those pictures of them in their Chinese dresses are just beautiful.

polkadot said...

good morning!

hubby and I are thinking of surprising the kids this morning and taking them to Disneyland... not sure yet.

If not, we're seriously downgrading to housework and yardwork.

How is everone today?

Marla said...

Well, I guess I should start getting my crew ready for the day. My 2 year old just finished his oatmeal and needs to go straight to the tub, lol. I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!

redmaryjanes said...

Hey there my Gypsy friend! It's kind of chilling on the chat this morning. My kids would LOVE to go to Disneyland. We're doing the CNY thing tonight.

redmaryjanes said...

Have a great weekend Marla~

Marla said...

Thanks Kimberley! They'd wear those dresses every single day if I'd let them. I always tell people to buy LOTS of them and in all sizes. We have a whole chest full and the girls love digging through to pick out which ones they are going to wear. As you can imagine, they gets lots of attention around town when they're all dressed up. :)

redmaryjanes said...

I will definitely do that when I'm China, get a number of dresses in different styles.

Marla said...

Disneyland or housework? Hmmmm, I know which I'd vote for! :)

polkadot said...

... the California people are waking up... ;) 8:15 here, so still a tad early. Unless you have two toddlers and have been up since 5am :)

Marla said...

Ok, seriously going now, Jack just took off covered in oatmeal! :o

See y'all next week!

redmaryjanes said...

Bye Marla!

Kelley said...

Regarding the beautiful Chinese dresses, how do you all wash them? I bought my stepdaughter one years before we went to get Chloe, and it literally fell apart in the wash. I've been too scared to wash any of Chloe's, so I always just put them on her for just a little while and then take them off.

Good morning, GoaTB!

redmaryjanes said...

Yeah, it's funny. The people in the East start dropping off about now and then a flood of people come in because they are waking up out West.

redmaryjanes said...

Gypsy (You will always be Gypsy to me) I see that your girl wants a cell phone. We just gave our 15 year old one this year.
EVERYONE will be calling on that phone.

redmaryjanes said...

I have no idea how to wash those dresses, my guess is dry cleaning.

Kim N Jeff said...

Kelley - got your invite and just signed in :) Chloe is just adorable :)

by the way is anyone else having problems with blogger and blogrolling? I have lost all the sites that I like to visit :(

Kelley said...

I've lost the "Search and Destroy" blog from my bloglines list...don't know what happened there. Blogger has been having problems lately (no spellcheck, etc.)

redmaryjanes said...

I'm not smart enough to figure out blogrolling, so I'm a manual girl. I click over and over.

Kelley said...

Kimberley, you were talking about your waves of people...since I'm in the midwest, I catch about half of each group. It's funny!

redmaryjanes said...

It is funny how it goes in waves, and then the people in the East get disappointed because I close the chatroom at noon my time.

~verna said...

Good morning ladies. Late start here. Slept in--thanks to hubby. It's snowing here and I see you've made >300 comments. Whew!

redmaryjanes said...

I mean the people in the West. The Easterners get a lot of chat time.

Kim N Jeff said...

speaking of the midwest... Is anyone else getting the snow and cold that we have had here in WI the last couple of days... We got over 16 inches on Wednesday

redmaryjanes said...

Good Morning Verna,

I want to thank you so much for all of your help last week.

polkadot said...

yes, she really wants a cell phone, poor deprived girl. She wants it for "texting" because that's how they all communicate now. I said... there's this little thing called a house phone and it works just like a cell phone... and if you want to text there's this thing called email... or you could go OUTSIDE and BE TOGETHER.

Too many options.
Gypsy was my fave alias, BTW.

Gail said...

Hi everyone, I'm back again. I see you are still chatting away. It is really cold here today in WI.

Truly Blessed said...

Hey ladies,

I'm back for a second or two. Things have calmed down around her for the time being.

About washing the little Chinese dresses. I've only done it a couple of times, but I have found that doing it by hand and then rolling the wetness out between towels is the best way.

I spot clean the really messy parts, then gently wash the rest of it.

Hang to dry.

By the way, the red dresses will BLEED like crazy, so use a towel that you don't care for, that's dark enough to not show it, or one that you can bleach!

Trust me on this!

~verna said...

No problem RMJ. I just hope those ladies get some orders. Kari has only ever gotten one order on her PJs :( They are so cute with the matching doll pjs. Mya's not big on dolls here.

Haven't had a chance to read all the comments. Probably won't cuz Mya has to have me help her with a puzzle.

redmaryjanes said...

We got Zach the cell phone because we at the hockey rink later at night this year and we wanted him to be able to call if he got out early. And to be honest, he didn't seem to have an active social life...so we weren't worried about a lot of calls.
Well, let me tell you. He rang up $50.00 in texting fees the first month, he paid us for that. Also, he is on that phone constantly. He is careful to talk during the free time after 7pm. But we have to take his phone every night at 10 pm because some girl was calling all hours of the night. He pays us $15 a month for ulimited texting now because he goes way over the limit.
It's crazy.

It has been a help to us though because it is very easy to reach him now.

redmaryjanes said...

Verna,

I e-mailed Kari yesterday and asked her if she could come up with some type of a baby blanket for around $20. This is in the secret buddy price range. When Robin came out with a product in that range, things just took off like crazy for her.
So, Kari said she would work on something. If she came up with a baby blanket with an Asian fabric that was really soft-I'll bet she could sell a ton of them.
What do you think?

Truly Blessed said...

Hey guys,

Let me ask you a question. I know another set of APs who are considering their 2nd adoption. As a way to raise money, he asked me if I thought a "yellow pages" type of site for all AP 'businesses' - blog design, jewelry, clothing, bows, etc. would be helpful for APs looking to buy things. He wonders if the AP businesses would be willing to pay for such a listing, or if the potential buyers would pay for the service.

what do you think?

polkadot said...

we live in a smal town, and there's always someone handy with a phone to borrow if she needs to call home, so I know it's definitely about the texting.

I'm worried that "MySpace" will be her next request (NO).

Thanks for the heads-up on the texting charges, that is good ammo for me!

Kim said...

Hello everyone.. I dusted, windex, vac. and put dishes away and have done laundry and you are all still on here..
WOW..
Good Morning Kim (& Jeff)

redmaryjanes said...

Kelly,
I know that I would rather spend my money helping families than give it to a chain store.
I think that idea would be a good one as long as you can keep scams out.
There are scammers. Trust me. I only post fundraisers that have people I know who can vouch for them.
But if someone could kind of look over the site to make sure the people are legitimate, I think it's a good idea.
It's kind of what I'm trying to do on a smaller scale on my sidebar.

Kim said...

Kimberley~ about cell phones.. it is kind of funny how they are always on it.. I finally got unlimited texting too.. they all 3 have one..
But on the good side of it..
I know I can get a hold of them..
I LOVE the blanket idea...
Who's blog is that on..???

redmaryjanes said...

Oh and Gypsy, that sock monkey is fabulous!

Kim said...

Kimberley~ do you want to send us those direct links for the fundraisers and I will place them on my blog too..
I know that there are different people on all of our blogs..

Kelley said...

I know an adoptive mom who's daughter is in 7th grade now...she gets so many text messages that the mom is completely freaked out. Some of them are quite inappropriate, too, she tells me. Chloe's going to think I'm a witch because I don't want her to have that stuff...oh well. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Kelly, thanks for the laundry tips. Tell me more about the spot cleaning...what do you use?

redmaryjanes said...

Kim,

If you click on the $5 off coupon on my sidebar, it will take you to Kari's blog, but she hasn't designed the blanket yet. She's working on it.

~verna said...

Yes, I think Kari would do very well with an asian them blanket. It can be a tough market. Thanks for encouraging her.

Kim, it is snowing here and we are to get really cold again tonight.

I'm busy looking for Made in MN gifts for the nannies, orphanage director and foster grandma.

polkadot said...

I am so proud of that sock monkey! My 11 year old asked me to make it and I said I had no idea how to sew -- and he said, "But MOM! You can do anything!!"

So now we have a sock monkey...

Truly Blessed said...

Okay, Kimberley, if you think people might be willing to pay for such a listing, who do you think should pay -- the listers?

I think this is a great idea (how many times have I gone to a link and then lost it again forever, not knowing where I found the original link?)

I agree that it would need to be verified before listing. I appreciate that this family is looking to provide a neat service that isn't being done -- and yet still try to raise money for their adoption.

Kelley said...

Gypsy (easier to type and if you like it better then great), I saw your sock monkey this morning and left you a comment. You are talented!

~verna said...

Wow, I guess I hit enter too many times!!!

Kelley said...

Kelly,
I like the idea of an AP yellow pages. I'd use it!

Kim said...

Love the sock monkey..
that is adorable..

redmaryjanes said...

Kelly,

I would think that the fee would have to be minimal and paid to whoever builds the site and takes the time to maintain it. The purpose is for the families to raise money, so it would need to be a good samaritan who put it together. Maybe $25 a year?

polkadot said...

sock monkey says thank you... maybe I will make mini versions and send them to all of the little china girlies out there in blogland.

meanwhile, kim, how do I get the link to this chat to be a "hyperlink" so people can click over? I could only figure out how to do it as a photo.

The thing is that he is also an AP trying to raise $ for an adoption. I'll share your comments and thoughts, and see what he thinks.
