Welcome to the Saturday Morning Chat Group!

Good Morning Everone! Welcome to the Saturday Morning Chat Group. I want to thank everyone who is participating in the Starfish Supply Raiser. It has been an incredible experiencee for myself and my family.
Earlier this week we received a box of donations and my son Tyler became a little emotional about it. He said, " Mom, one person can make a difference in the world can't they?" And I told him, "Yes they can." "The people sending these clothes are making a difference". I was so proud to see my son understanding what this was all about.
We're going to have a lot of fun this weekend. Tonight we are celebrating Chinese New Year by meeting Steffie and her family at our favorite Chinese restaurant for the Emperor's 10 Course Dinner. We are very excited about that. Our families will be able to meet each other.

Good Morning Kim! You are off today!!! So, how are things going with you?

Kim said...

Good... I am just doing laundry..
Nick has to go to the Marine recruiting office for his weekly HARDCORE workout..John has an appointment with one of our neighbors @10 .. they are going to buy a new airconditioner... YEAH so that is two people right next to each other...and then we are going out to John's step-mothers and the boys are going to work on Nick's car.. and I am going to start the quilt with my grandfathers shirts on it.. Help of his step-mother of course..

redmaryjanes said...

Sounds like you all are going to be busy.
I can't wait to see that quilt. What a beautiful idea.
I wish I had some sewing talent, but I never learned.

Kim said...

You are going to have so much fun tonight...
We haven't started going to the FCC events yet...
THe wait is so long and I guess we don't really have a good reason..
We will someday..

Kim said...

My mother crochets... and for she has been working on a blanket for my Secret Buddy...I can not tell you how many thousands of stiches she has done..
It is going to be one of the final presents...
She is on the last of the ruffles.. and she had two rows left and she said it had about 9000 stitches... I can't imagine..
I wish I had some talent in sewing , knitting, or etc..

Our 1 year LID tied in so closely with CNY that we decided that it was a good way for our family to celebrate that milestone. Things are moving so slowly that we wanted the children to be reminded of their sister and that she is coming. It's also special because Steffie and my's families will be able to meet which will be nice. Also, both Stef and I before we even met have had relationships with the family that owns the restaurant for many many years. For me it's been since my 15 year old was in kindergarten. I plan for our family to go every year from here on out.

redmaryjanes said...

Wow, your SB is going to love that. I just got the Kimberley dress in the mail yesterday from my SB. Very special to say the least.

Kim said...

Truly Blessed said...

I can't keep up with all of you!

Kim, your SB is a lucky gal! I love hand-knit/crocheted stuff. sounds like your mom is putting a lot of love into her work.

Loved the story of the little one falling into the funeral arrangements -- too funny!

Truly Blessed said...

I just finished the post about our FCC new year event. Blogger is giving me fits!

The Johnson Family said...

Carol I just went to your blog and the photo is hilarious I have one very similiar when my twins were about 18 mos! She is too cute!

redmaryjanes said...

Eli used to unroll the toilet paper too, our cat likes that little trick also.
For us the terrible twos have turned into the terrible threes.
We're having dinner tonight with Steffie and her family. I'm sure that her little Sophia is going to be an angel with good table manners and Eli is going to look like a caveman. : )

Carol said...

Crystal those photos are amazing! What a gift for your daughter!!

Kim said...

Kelly~ your post is wonderful...

redmaryjanes said...

Kelly,

Katie looks so beautiful. Did you get her dress in China or here?

Truly Blessed said...

I have ZERO talent when it comes to sewing, but I know someone who does a fantastic job -- Robin, from Red Thread Stitches.

I just got my order yesterday (2 Kimberley dresses, 2 matching headbands, 2 satin edged pillowcases & a panda bookbag (that's a gift for my SB). Everything is wonderful and I can't wait to order more -- she's put up new ADORABLE things in the last week!

I don't know how she does it.

Carol said...

caveman...I like that one!!!!!
We call Emily a stripper because she likes to dance on the coffee table in her diaper.......I swear she is tap dancing!!! Too funny I have to video it for all of you!!!

Unknown said...

Thanks !! Many bloggers are sooo sad. I cant believe i have found so many people this year from Union by blogging..

btw, you guys are funny!

Truly Blessed said...

That particular dress came from China Sprout (size 3 -- a little big). We only brought one dress back from China (head slap!) and she grew out of that a long time ago!

Thank you, she did look adorable!

We had a great time. Even if Katie was a little contrarian at times.

The Johnson Family said...

amy we drove righ tthrough jackson on the right to the uscis office in memphis wedenesday mornign..it was unbelievable. I am very fond of that campus we went to chruch camp there on 1993 and this is where I gave my life to Jesus. It was unreal to actually see the devastation, I am so sorry for your loss and i am continuing to pray for these families.

Carol said...

hey another topic...I mean this in the best way.............is anyone excited that Dec referrals are almost done? I saw that 8 days....it's a good thing right?

Truly Blessed said...

Kim, we are ECSTATIC that we are FINALLY DTC!!!! I cannot fathom why it took over 4 months to get to this point, but I'm sure God has a reason for allowing us to wait. I have to work to see the positives, though.

redmaryjanes said...

Kelly,

I got my Kimberley dress yesterday from my SB. Robin has another VERY large bill coming up from her agency. She needs to raise another 6k. So, I'm going to place another order with her. I love that apron she has, I'm going to order one for my SB, also that one tote, not the panda one, but the brown one. I'm going to order one of those too.
I'm going to do some posts for her in mid-March.
She has been sewing her little heart to bring Hope home and she has arthritis.

The Johnson Family said...

Carol thanks those pictires will be truly treasured by her and already are by us..we also have pictures of both parents!

The tornado damage is incredible. My prayers to all who were affected.

Also, Daleea's husband works at that sugar refinery where there was an explosion. He is fine, but several people died and hundreds are critically injured. Please keep them in your prayers as well.

redmaryjanes said...

I really want them to start assigning 2006 LID's since mine is in 2007. When I keep hearing 2005 over and over again, it makes it seem like I have FOREVER.

Does anyone know if Bethany is one of the agencies still receiving the SN list moving forward?

redmaryjanes said...

Good Morning Margaret!
How are you?

Truly Blessed said...

Kimberley, I LOVE Robin's new tote bag (with the mod flowers) -- and love the new dress, too. I think I'll place another order (my DH loved the dresses and thinks Katie needs to wear her new Kimberley dress to the CAWM CNY Gala tonight (with a long sleeved shirt underneath, of course!)

Hi Kelley & Margaret -- glad to see you this morning!

redmaryjanes said...

Oh my word, I hadn't heard that about where Daleea's husband works. I'll have to get over to her blog. She is such a nice woman.

Kim said...

I am sooo happy they are almost done with 2005... But I have a feeling things are going to slow down around the March 2006.. there are A LOT Of people in March..
But 8 days is better then 2...
We just have to keep the faith..

redmaryjanes said...

I must say that Robin's dresses are the finest quality. She does such a great job. I think I will start ordering them in larger sizes, so that Sophia will have them as she grows up. I don't know if Robin will want to continue after Hope comes home or not. I have the Panda and the Kimberley dresses and they are amazing.

Kim said...

Robin has soooo many cute things...
It makes you want to buy one of everything..
She is going to be so busy..
She needs a sewing partner...

Kim said...

Our agency assures us that they are going with the on-line sn program....I think they all will, it will just take time to get them all set up................isn't that going to be harder on us the sn parents? How are they going to decide on a family? I see bad things there....like who has the most money wins!! Tell me it isn't so!!! I want to adopt again, but we have to wait to gather some $$$$

Kim said...

Kimberley~ what are some things you don't have that you need..
I haven't got anything yet..

redmaryjanes said...

Kim,

I ordered a size 2T for my Kimberley dresses, but I have ordered them for other people.
The dress I have is from my Secret Buddy and I don't know what size it is. It looks like a 2 or a 3.

Truly Blessed said...

We are doing better this weekend. Lily was really sick all last week. we ended up back at the pediatrician after 6 days of fever with it going up to 103 and 104 and were finally diagnosed with influenza. The flu is really nasty this year.

redmaryjanes said...

Crystal,
The children in the Starfish Foster Home are adoptable. They are all special needs children, the majority of them are brought to Starfish because it is feared that they will not survive in the traditional orphanages because they are so fragile when they are found.
Amanda is the most amazing woman I have ever seen. She finds ways to raise money to pay for their surgeries, she arranges their transportation and nurtures them to recovery. Then she prepares them for adoption.
The last of her original children Antoinette who is two years old is leaving this month to go with her forever family in Spain and I can tell that Amanda is really having a hard time. She has had her since she was 4 days old.
She told me in an e-mail that means a lot to her for her children to be dressed well. She doesn't want them to look like orphans. That really touched me.
She is very happy to receive gently used items, so feel free to send whatever you like.

Kim said...

Kimberley~ if they don't have to be BRAND new.. I was going to go to Scottsdale and they have this shop there were you can get new and REALLY nice used things for lower price.. and since it is in the my expensive part of AZ. there is A LOT of name brand things for cheap.. and they might donate some stuff to me.. I am going to go see ...
THey know me .. I get A LOT of bows through them.. One of the owners make them... that is what they are famous for..

The Johnson Family said...

well originally we said we would call her Bella ..I usually say Izabella my family calls her bella the kids call her izzy b and so does my mom often and hr sunday school teachers call her izzy and isabel...she will pretty much answer to anything!!

Truly Blessed said...

I was wondering who "Carl" was...

Johnson Family -- sorry, what is your first name? I just sent an invite to Katie's Antics. The email should come from "Truly Blessed" (that's me).

Nikki have fun at work !! Your little lily is such a cutie my izabella has so many of the same dress up things and ballerina clothes i see Lily wearing on your blog..this is her first year dancing!!

redmaryjanes said...

Kim,
That would be fantastic. I know that Amanda has 15 children right now, so I was thinking of how many sleepers she must go through in a week. And it's 105 and that's if no one spits up. She needs a lot of clothes to keep that place going.

Carolyn said...

RMJ-
I think its fantastic you are organizing things for Amanda. I am wondering if it would be better for me to send a box directly over to her or to send it from here down to you first? How are you planning to get things over there?

Getting back to the thread of the CCAA finishing 2005, I will join the chorus of the multitudes saying "Hallelujah!" I cannot believe it has taken three years to get through 2005. How in the world does China justify still accepting applications?

By the way, IAAP ( a wonderful Christian adoption agency) just lost their right to be involved in the China program. They fought hard for an wonderful single mom to adopt a SN child- a mom who was pre-approved, but when the CCAA director found out she was African American, they said NO. IAAP fought for her (and won -- Mom's been home with her daughter for about 8 months), but IAAP is now cut off from the China program. This is SO SAD.

Carolyn said...

OK- maybe I'll send a box down to you along with a little bit of help for the postage to Chin. I'll try to get it together this week, since it may take 1-2 weeks to cross the border and find you!

DX is great! Boundless energy these days. Bedtime at 8 pm is becoming more of a challenge! I have a feeling that one of these years we'll get a chance to meet in person. I bet the boys would have a blast!

So, I'm off to get a few things ready for the day- there is basketball practice, a Brownie sleepover tonight, and I also have to work!

Have a great weekend, everyone!!

I love reading about the CNY celebrations. Katie looks beautiful in her red dress. Funny story, we live in a really small town right now. For perspective, we are in the Appalachian mountains about 2 hours from the nearest mall. Anyway, we have one Chinese restaurant and they know us well. Last year, Lily dressed up in one of her beautiful outfits and we all went out to eat. Well our Chinese place was closed so the family could celebrate CNY. So with Lily in full Chinese splendor, we headed over to the local Mexican place for dinner. It is still a sweet memory.

Three years to get through 2005--I was part of that (August 2005). At that rate, it will take us 6 years to get Holly home. (Waiting for all of 2006 and 2007, that is. We're LID 1-10-08) Oh well. We'll get there when we get there.

It took us a LONG time to settle on Elizabeth, and we still all aren't in agreement over her nickname For now we think Ella, but reserve the right to change it once we have her in our arms! Thankfully, Elizabeth is the queen mother of all nicknames (yeah, pun intended), so we'll have options!

Margaret,
I just read your comment about dressing for CNY and ending up eating at a Mexican Restaurant. That is a great story!

Margaret M said...

Kelly,
I remember when I first heard her story. I was shocked that this was an issue since all of our families are transracial. I just didn't get it. How unfortunate that they lost their program. I must say that I am impressed by how they stuck behind their client. So what happens to all the clients in process with this agency?

Thanks guys!

Carol,
I don't see why you couldn't send some toys along if you want. I'm sure that Amanda will be so happy to receive anything you choose.
I really don't think she has any idea of how much is coming her way. It's going to be a great surprise. I can't believe how many families have responded.

redmaryjanes said...

Amy,

How are the wedding plans coming? Are you going to post some photos of your flower choices, dresses? You know I used to be a wedding planner.

Unknown said...

awwww Amy, have fun!

~Amy~ said...

You did Kim?! OH my i'll need your help! My mom bought me a big wedding planner binder for Valentines Day so I'll be starting on that ASAP! :)

Truly Blessed said...

Kimberley,

That was the thing. This lady had already been approved. Nobody had a problem with the color of her skin except Director Lu (according to what she told us). He said NO. IAAP went to bat for her (BTW, not that it makes any difference, she wanted to adopt an older girl (4, I think) with a double cleft lip & palate -- definitely one of the harder to place SN children).
Sadly, there are many IAAP families who are angry at HER for their SN program shutting down (she's gotten lots of 'hate mail', and many AA families who are worried that they won't be able to adopt now. None of this is her fault, and she feels so badly about 1st IAAP's SN program stopping, now about the entire China program stopping. It's so wrong.
Keep her in your prayers if you think of it. Her name is Sabrina, her daughter's name is Lavender (who just had surgery to correct her lip on the 7th).

Amy,
We have been praying for all the people affected by the toranados including those at your college. We spent a good part of that morning at my school with the kids in the halls due to tornado watches but we were lucky. It is so devastating.

redmaryjanes said...

I'm calling her ELLA. I already made up my mind.

~Amy~ said...

All I know so far is I want shades of pink and black accents as my colors!

The Johnson Family said...

Amy I love the brown and pink on your blog and think your hair is nice brown!!

things are well here....trying to wake up some, ugly day here today so far, but the sun is supposed to come out...

kim, you should get my box today...don't forget to look in the red envelope, I didn't put a note in my box to tell you and I didn't want it to get lost...

and my mom's friend Sue sent me a whole bunch more stuff so I'll mail you another box this week...

Truly Blessed said...

Margaret,

I have no idea what will happen with the other IAAP families in the China program. They just sent out an email yesterday announcing that the program was closed.

Their greatest concern is the foster home they have in China. They cannot continue to fund it now. It's just like Amanda's Starfish home -- they take the sickest of the sick babies. It's heartbreaking.

Unknown said...

As much as I dont want to, I have to go to bed..Check out the blogs for my refelctions of the week

redmaryjanes said...

Thank you so much Dannye, I'll look for your box. I have had one arrive almost every day for the past 3 days, so it's been a lot of fun. Tell your friend Thank you also. It is very sweet of her to help.

redmaryjanes said...

Poor Amy,
Get some sleep. You are working too much this weekend.
Have a wonderful week and I'll keep in touch.

Margaret M said...

I thought there was a post on our cleft group about Lavender and there was. Her sister posted yesterday that her surgery was successful and that she is even more beautiful than before. She said that Sabrina would update the group when they got home. Do they have blog?

The Johnson Family said...

it has been so fun chatting with you ladies this morning and checking out all your blogs and I am going to keep up with them, but I gotta go get my monksys some breakfast!! I will check back later if I get a chance!! have a great weekend!!

~Amy~ said...

Ok BYE ladies! Hugs to you all!!!!

Truly Blessed said...

Sabrina hasn't posted about the surgery yet. I'm still praying for her.

I think, right now, that Sabrina needs more prayers than Lavender. Her heart hurts so badly over the issues at IAAP and the pressure from other APs. She really feels like she's being blamed for things that she has no control over. Please keep her in your prayers.

redmaryjanes said...

Good Morning K1!
How are the Kayaks today?

redmaryjanes said...

Kelly,
Does Sabrina go to our church?

A Mom- In-W8ing said...

That is too funny. I feel that way too some mornings, but I love it. I really look forward to Saturday mornings now. It gets me in touch with everybody and with what's going on out there.

Kimberley,

Sabrina lives in California. As great as our church is, I doubt she'd be able to be there for Sunday services!

Dannye said...

Bye Crystal..
Have a Great Day

redmaryjanes said...

K1,

Well there has been drama for my little Zach. He desperately likes a girl who only wants to be his friend and then two other girls like him, but he won't like them back because he's holding our for girl #1. So, he went to the dance alone, only to see girl #1 with another boy. But he said that he had a good time.
Breaks my heart.

redmaryjanes said...

Have a great day Dannye!

The kayak family is about to travel into Toronto to pick up their new car! We bought a Toyota Yaris on Thursday and it is ready! We have been looking for a second car for a long while now and finally found the one that suits us to a tee.
How are you doing?

Oh I'm so sorry about Zach, Kimberley. I remember those days with my son Nick and similiar situations. It used to break my heart.

Good morning Lea! All it does here is snow in WI. Wish spring would come early. :)

Margaret M said...

Kelly,
Just sent you an e-mail. Hope it goes through.

redmaryjanes said...

The Toyota Yaris! Very cool. What color?

We are all doing well. Eli has a runny nose, but besides that, everyone is healthy which is good because this has been a bad winter for flu bugs.

I still have your chapstick on the nose graphic from last year ready to go if we get sick.

Kimberley,

I am really not looking forward to those teenage years. SO many emotions and heartache. Zach sounds strong and confident which will definitely serve him well.

A Mom- In-W8ing said...

RMJ, could you send me what I need to put the Sat. Chat picture and link on my blog?

I have seen it on many blogs but I'm not sure how to get it on mine so that it will link to your blog when someons clicks on the pic.

Have a good day Danny!

Kelly ... AKA, "Truly Blessed," "K3" (by my blogging sister, K1), and "notallboysanymore" (LOL!) I would really like to check out your blog if you wouldn't mind.

I'm not looking forward to the "teen years" with either my stepdaughter or Chloe. It's too hard to keep up these days, with all of the technology available.

To everyone with big plans today, I hope that you have lots of fun!

but until then
he has you lovely bloggers

Oh Gail, I just hate seeing my boys heart hurt. He has likes this girl for two years and has put all other relationships on hold for her. He's only 15, so it's not a huge deal. He isn't allowed to date yet. He can go to movies and things in groups, but no one on one until he is 16. But with this situation, he may pine away for all of high school.
When I did the post about a girl coming over, I thought it was the girl who called all of the time, but no, it was girl #1.
And last night she went over to Zach's Dad's house for pizza and a movie.
He's just trying to hard to win her over.

Gail said...

I'm leaving now, have lots to do today. Have a great weekend and Happy Chinese New Year!
