Good Morning Saturday Morning Chat Group!...It's Time for the Seventh Diamond Children's Clothing Swap!!

Good Morning Everyone! Welcome to the Saturday Morning Chat Group. It's pretty quiet from what I can tell in blogland. We still have some friends out of the country to bring home their chidlren, so let's continue to support them. Paula from 'The Baby Journals' is giving away a Starbucks card...you'd better believe I signed up for that! Amanda has been receiving some packages from the Starfish Book Drive, so thank you to everyone who sending a book and some supplies.

AND.... I AM LAUNCHING THE SEVENTH DIAMOND CHILDREN'S CLOTHING SWAP.
What do you think?

Ok everyone, it's time for The Seventh Diamond Children's Clothing Swap and this is how it works....

1) Go through your child's closet and make a list of the things that they have outgrown that you would be willing to swap, the sizes they are and the brands you have. For Eli I have all size 4T winter clothing: 3 sweaters, 6 shirts, 1 sweatshirt, 2 pairs of jeans, 7 pairs of pajamas. The brands I have are wonderkids, Gap, Old Navy, UR H, Now & Zen, Harry & Me, Land's End, Carter's & Cherokee. I also have a size 3T Columbia coat.

2) Identify the size and types of clothing you would like to receive. I would like to receive girls clothes in sizes 18 month to 3T. Winter preferably.

3) Send me an e-mail with this information at timnkim@gmail.com

If I receive an e-mail from a Mom who is looking for what you have to send and I have someone who is looking to give away what you need, I will match you up. I will do my best to match Moms with other Moms who like the same brands and I will try to match you up with an even number of items. When you are matched, I will send you the address of the Mom you are going to ship your outgrown clothing to. You have one week to send your box.

Now, this is an at your own risk swap. I will do my best to match everyone well. Please send gently used clothes, no tears, no holes, no stains. Send clothing you would love to receive : )

*The chat room is now closed. Have a great weekend everyone!

So, if this is the thread for the chat, I get to say hello and goodbye as I have to be at work at 8 this morning, but Amy will be here and she will talk about last night and she will have pictures coming as well.

Good Morning Everyone! How are you?

Unknown said...

Good morning everyone!

Unknown said...

Yeah for Michael

redmaryjanes said...

Hi there Amy! How are you? How did the fundraiser go?

Unknown said...

Getting pics now. Awesome turn out. My one box should have been 2 or 3!

Truly Blessed said...

Good morning from the lake!

It's gorgeous in Northern Lower Michigan this morning!!

redmaryjanes said...

Good Morning Kelly! How are you all? It is gorgeous today!

Truly Blessed said...

Amy, I'm totally out of the loop -- can you explain about the fundraiser?

Truly Blessed said...

Okay, so here's a warning -- I have no way of "refreshing" the comments without leaving one (because of the dial up service I'm using), so if my comments seem weird, I'm making them to refresh the page so I can see (and respond) to what everyone else is talking about!

All is going great here. Five healthy kids, NO sunburn so far (yippee!) life is great!

Unknown said...

Actually, the lady may stop by today/ She is raising money for her China adoption.

She wrote a beautiful poem and has them beautfully framed. When you buy them, she personalizes them by adding your own pics and things to it!

Hoping I can get a picture for you!

On another note, last night we collected items for Amanda and Starfish an had a great turnout

Dannye said...

morning all...Amy sounds like you did great...michael sounded quite excited

Truly Blessed said...

Amy, I love your FF idea and wish we had something like that around here. What a wonderful and supportive group you have there...

Dannye said...

Kelly I understand about not being about to refresh, my comment box is a separate box with no refresh so I have to either post or hit the "XX from a friend" link....but whatever works so I can participate, hehe

redmaryjanes said...

I'm glad that it turned out well Amy.

Unknown said...

I think if you want community like that, you need heart, bodies and a building. It is the most amazing thing I have ever been a part of!

Hey Dannye!

Dannye said...

Kim, your clothing swap sounds like a great idea....hope it goes okay for you...

redmaryjanes said...

I have a refresh button on my browser on the top, so it makes a little easier. But I have to wident the comments so that it takes up my whole screen to do it.

Truly Blessed said...

Kimberley,

We need to get this adoption group going at church. I wish I were at home so we could meet and discuss it. But let's try to get together with a few other ladies as soon as school starts so we can launch this thing in time for National Adoption Month in November.

redmaryjanes said...

I think the clothing swap could be fun. We'll see if anyone signs up to do it. : )

Dannye said...

got the sad email about Verna not being the blog fairy any longer....she will be missed in that capacity....but glad she didn't say she was no longer blogging!!

redmaryjanes said...

Kelly,

I am working on the adoption group. I met with the lead guy at the Annex last Sunday and he took down our info. I gave him your name too (you are my partner in this one girl). He said he would work on it this week and was very enthusiastic. I think we might be getting somewhere. I'll send you an e-mail on Sunday night.

Dannye said...

my comment box won't allow me to widen it....oh well....

redmaryjanes said...

I am sad to see Verna step down too, but she is busy with her family and really hasn't been getting a lot of requests. I think that the blogs flow in groups and people who are in the same timeframes tend to stick together and most of our ladies have their blogs done now.

Truly Blessed said...

Yes, I also got Verna's email. It doesn't surprise me, she's very busy with her "bigs and littles" at home. I know how much time blogging takes up, I can't imagine designing and finding all of the components she needs to do her BF work.

Dannye said...

amy any response from D&B about getting together??

Dannye said...

kim any other word on the earthquake...the news i saw doesn't give much news

Unknown said...

Verna is awesome. Im glad she is at peace with her decision

Truly Blessed said...

Kimberley, is your family thinking of attending the North Side launch?

We live SO much closer to Cornerstone than ABC, but haven't decided yet. Our Church Family is out on Cascade Rd., I can't imagine not seeing my friends who stay at the main church each week. It's such a dilemma.

Truly Blessed said...

Other than Kimberley's blog, I never saw anything about another earthquake...

Dannye said...

it was one of those brief mentionings on CNN or MSNBC last night, like a "oh by the way" kinda deal

redmaryjanes said...

We are not attending the North Side launch. We live much closer to the Cascade Road site. Oh, don't be leaving me now girl. Let's get this rolling and then you can do it out of the new church and I can work on it at the old. I have so many ideas. He's supposed to talk to me this Sunday about what he finds out and maybe what we can do.

redmaryjanes said...

I think China is keeping the earthquake very quiet as not to impact the Olympics.

Unknown said...

YOu guys rock! I just got pics up from lasst night!

Dannye said...

cool amy...

Truly Blessed said...

Hey, all of you smart bloggers, can someone tell me what "Bloglines" are? Is that where your blog automatically emails your readers to tell them the blog is updated?

I'm such a dork. I really don't understand what it is, but if that is what it is, I'd like to have it on my blog, but I get so confused when I read those "self-help tutorials".

I need someone to tell me exactly what to put exactly where in my template or it's not going to happen.

Truly Blessed said...

OMW, I just realized that today is the 2nd -- that means we've been home ONE MONTH (tomorrow) ~~ where has the time gone?

redmaryjanes said...

I have never been able to figure out bloglines.

redmaryjanes said...

Are you guys having trouble with blogger this morning? I have some women who can't get to their blogs or mine. They are getting kicked off.

Truly Blessed said...

I'm so glad it's not just me!

Unknown said...

Its dangerous. Haha! Its a way of letting you know when the blogs you read are updated

redmaryjanes said...

Ella is so cute!
I have had her gift in my minivan for weeks now : )
When will you guys be back in church?

Dannye said...

it took me quite some time to get onto your blog, but no problem getting on mine...

redmaryjanes said...

Your internet connection seems a ton better today Kelly!

redmaryjanes said...

What all did you guys collect for Starfish Amy? I won't tell Amanda.

Truly Blessed said...

Amazingly, I'm not having trouble this morning. I quite often do at home (mostly with yours and Steffie's blogs -- I think it's because both of your blogs have so much stuff going on with photos, animation and music, it shuts down my browser more often than not).

This morning I got smart and when I got to your site, I hit the "stop loading" button and went right to comments, and it has been working fine.

Unknown said...

I am addicted to blogs. Please dont laugh. I have 699 blogs on my bloglines. FYI, you may want to remember that number for a future contest and you know I love contests.

Oh my goh RMJ, I never mailed you your book. Dude I am sooo sorry

redmaryjanes said...

I'm glad you are here, I've missed you.

Truly Blessed said...

So, Amy, do you think you could teach me where to put what so I can offer that to my readers? And I don't mean just a link -- I've read many of them, but I cannot understand them. I need step by step instructions.

If you can't, don't worry. I've lived without it for years, I can continue to live without it!

redmaryjanes said...

Don't sweat it Amy! I am bombing at your postcard swap.
Steffie Beckering and I are working together on getting ourselves set up for our agencies new SN program and it's been my main focus.

Truly Blessed said...

RMJ, we'll be in Church next Sunday. T heads to camp that day (he's going to Spring Hill this year) so I have to be home to get his stuff ready.

That's the bad thing about having teenagers with summer jobs at the lake, I really have to be here. I MISS MY CHURCH!!!!

Unknown said...

YOu can tell her. Apparently Susan (Our FF founer) talks to her a few times a week.

We got a ton of baby Motrin, books for her (not too many), preemie diapers, diaper cream, baby suntan lotion. I have not gone through everything. I am going to pack it and weigh it. If its too expensive for me, we will wait and sent it with the FF group going to Starfish in October!

redmaryjanes said...

I know that Amanda is very good friends with one of the founders of your group I believe. So that must be Susan.

It's going to be very expensive. One average sized box is about $300.00 with no discount. It was crazy with the clothing drive, that's why I started the postage fund.

If it's too much, just divide it up and have your group put it in their suitcases.

I really wish you could go. Amanda would love you.

Unknown said...

I have no idea how to post bloglines on your blog but I know its doable since I have seen it on others. I just signed up for bloglines at bloglines.com and on the page you will see feeds on the left and thats what you work with. JUst click on add feeds and paste the blog on it.. It doesnt look user friendly but really all you need is the add link button.

Once you have your list created and you go to check it the update ones are bold. Of course they are all bold when you start so you just need to click on "all read"

redmaryjanes said...

Zachary is looking for a job. He has his car now. That is such a huge change. He can come and go as he needs to and it's just so weird for me.

Unknown said...

I want to go but knowing we could get a referral in the next few months, its just financially possible

redmaryjanes said...

Yeah, I hear you Amy.

We are trying to get a small trip planned to take Eli to DisneyWorld before Sophia comes since we will be laying low for while when she comes home.

Unknown said...

Now you tell me when you are in Orlando. I will find a reason to go home for a few days

Unknown said...

ONce again RMJ, thanks for doing this each week

mommy24treasures said...

hey guys blogland is quiet because site meter is having an issue with internet explorer, it won't let people open up blogs with a site meter on them. If you take your site meter off temporarrily it fixes the problem. Wierd. I can open blogs fine in mozilla.
This clothes swap sounds great Kimberly:)

Unknown said...

and dont worry about the postcards. Get to them when you can. The way I look at it, the later they are, the better the surprise in the mail. haha!

I had to just do them during tv time one evening

Unknown said...

Im on mozilla

Truly Blessed said...

Sorry gals, I've got to run.

Both girls just woke up and I promised them French Toast for breakfast.

I'll come back later if they let me!

Gail said...

Just wanted to say hello, I'm very jet lagged and have been up since midnight. Thank you for all your support Kimberley while we were in China. I missed everyone!

Dannye said...

and kim, let me know when you are in Orlando, I would be so excited to be able to meet you guys!!

redmaryjanes said...

I have a friend trying to get on. having a hard time. I really want to help get the word out about her fundraiser

redmaryjanes said...

Dannye,
I will let you know. We really want him to have the experience while he is little.

Unknown said...

I sent out that email Dannye, and havent heard anything. Don and Be are meeting Catherine from Canada on the 12th. We can be there but didnt want to intrude on their time. We are meeting Fliss on the coast on the 15th. Whats a good day for you?

redmaryjanes said...

Hi there Gail~
I loved following your journey. William is beautiful!

redmaryjanes said...

Oh man, I would love to meet Fliss. I could listen to her talk all day long.

mommy24treasures said...

He will love it Kimberly Caitlyn still talks about our trip a yr ago and can't wait to go back. We go to Disney every yr after Thanksgiving. It is value season and rates are down a little and the Christmas dec. are beautiful. Weather is comfortable too.

Just been trying to play catch up here and see what's going on in blogland. Can't wait to see everyone get their referrals and go to China. China is amazing. I miss it very much.

redmaryjanes said...

Have fun..October is great in Florida!

Gail said...

When I'm not so tired, I'll do a post about William's foster home and more about the family that started it and the children that I met that live there. Quite a few have been adopted. The website is not up to date.

redmaryjanes said...

Sounds good Gail, go ahead and get some sleep. I have been warned that the jetlag is unbelievable.

Unknown said...

Sleep well Gail!

So how is everyone today? anything exciting planned for the week?

Gail said...

It feels like I've been hit by a truck or something. Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

I am good, thanks. I love the clothing swap idea!!!

redmaryjanes said...

There is a lot of talk on the blogs of families trying to get the new I-800 because their 171 expired.
I hear it's tough because agencies don't really know how to process it and the people in immigration don't know either.

Anonymous said...

I am looking forward to Gails post about Wiliams foster home. I went to the web site and checked it out. What an amazing family to do this for those children.

Unknown said...

Im not sure where we are at. Ours expires Aug 21 but all of our paperwork is in and the USCIS has our homestudy update so hopefully we are okay

Anonymous said...

I was following a blog this week of an adoptive father who went over to work in a camp for orphans. It was amazing. I posted it about it on my blog this week with a link.

Anonymous said...

Rumor Queen had a post abut hte USCIS this week...tons of comments. We started our mandatory 10 hours of Hague training this week. Boring stuff...most of which I have alread read about on either the USCIS wesite, stste dept. website or where I get most of my imortants info..the blogs!!!!

redmaryjanes said...

I hear you, I find out what I need to know from the blogs.

k1 said...

Good Morning.

Looks like I missed my sis once again. Oh well. I'll hang out here with the rest of you.

I wonder if the media crackdown put in place for the Olympics is why not much info is coming out about the earthquake. China wants tourists to come for the Olympics, not stay away because of potential earthquakes.

redmaryjanes said...

We just did our renewal a couple of months back, I'm hoping we have Sophia before it expires since there is so much speculation about whether or not you can continue to extend it.

Unknown said...

Oh gosh I hope we are in the clear

Unknown said...

Once LynnMarie gets home, cant wait to do these swaps

redmaryjanes said...

Hey there Karen!
Your sister said she'll pop back in if she can.
I agree with you. I think China is sensoring the media and not allowing much out about the earthquake.
I mean, doesn't it seem odd that an earthquake of over 5 in the country holding the Olympics is getting next to no coverage?

redmaryjanes said...

Yes, Patti, please sign up for the swap if you can.

I'm hoping to get a lot of families so I can successfully match everyone.

redmaryjanes said...

So...where's MAV? ARE YOU OUT THERE MAV?

Anonymous said...

We just hit 29 months yesterday and I am hopeful we are int he clear for ever having to renew this thing again (and we are not even done with this one). Our agency is Hague compliant so other than waiting for the USCIS to get their act together I think we are ok. Just want it done because the last thing we want is to get a referral and not be paper ready to go!!!

Motherof3 said...

Amy was kind enough to invite me to your group. I have sent her a copy of the poem I wrote from my heart about the adoption. We are just beginning our fundraising for the adoption, medical expenses (we are going special needs) and for travel expenses for 4...we have two little girls. We will name our new daughter Hannah.

Anonymous said...

I will definitely do the swap. I went through an obsessive phase in buying clothes for Maddy, plus a freidn gave me tons. She will never get to wear them all so I hope this is a success and we do another one. In the mena time, I have some boy stuff I wouldlove to swap.

redmaryjanes said...

Welcome mother of 3, we love new visitors!

Unknown said...

SO glad you made it. Kim, I sent you the poem and info. You have to see what shes done in person.
so wonderful

Hello all -- tons to do today as I'm headed up to the family cabin Monday and have no laundry or anything else ready ;)

Just wanted to send hugs and I'll be posting on my blogs in about a week.

Welcome Home Gail!

redmaryjanes said...

Just get me a list of your boy stuff that you want to swap and then let me know what you are looking to receive and I'll see what I can do!

redmaryjanes said...

Hey there Shelly!

Going to Africa?

redmaryjanes said...

You know I have to ask....
And have a great time at the cabin.

k1 said...

Yes, the lack of media coverage is strange.

We had a teeny 3.6 one here the other night and it made our news. Mav felt it while we were talking on the phone. I didn't feel it. He lives 17 miles north of me and the earthquake was NW of him.

Unknown said...

Have a good time That Girl!!!!

redmaryjanes said...

Wow, it's weird with all of these earthquakes lately. CA was hit last week too.

Anonymous said...

Will do. Hey I wanted to mention that the Travel Channel is re-running a 3 part series on China. It runs today from 3-6 EST and again on Friday I think. RQ posted about it yesterday so I set the TIvo ro record it.
And my Pray for China bands (like the LiveStrong ones) came in the mail...

Unknown said...

HI K1 and everyone!!!

k1 said...

Ok, I see what people are saying about problems posting today. I really need to get a wireless service. I have the computer, I have the antenna, just need to buy the signal. I think my poor old PC is getting tired. Even on DSL it is taking a long time to do stuff.

Motherof3 said...

This website is beautiful, by the way; Internet Explorer is giving me fits this morning, though, so I am not able to look at much before it kicks me off.

redmaryjanes said...

A lot of people are having trouble today. Blogger is having issues, I have heard sitemeter might be ther problem. I have sitemeter, but it hasn't been working on this blog for about a week, so I'm not having any trouble.

Unknown said...

I just set my DVR to record all the CHina shows, most of them are replaying this afternoon and tomorrow!!!

redmaryjanes said...

Hold on, let me delete my sitemeter.

Anonymous said...

Trouble here too...keeps telling me IE can't display the page..and then I have to refresh

Amy I can;t wait to watch them!! Sneak peek at some of what we'll see when we travel (hopefully soon)

Hi Amy. Am glad Michael posted this morning. Male bloggers have to be acknowledged!

RMJ, I think Mav may be lurking. He asked last night what time this started. He was a little incredulous when I said 5AM local time. He thinks you need to have a second start time for us here on the West Coast. There really is something WRONG with seting my alarm for 6AM on a Saturday so I can meet with you all. Hense my frequent absence!

Motherof3 said...

Amy, thank you for your invite. I will be in touch and let you know when I have a site to visit. Our sleepy heads are about to wake up and say, "Mommy...what's for breakfast?"

redmaryjanes said...

I deleted sitemeter. Let me know if you have anymore problems.
What is your name motherof3?

Dont forget about our new friends here today. I met motherof3 last night. What a beautiful lady with a creative heart

RMJ I sent you an email

redmaryjanes said...

I try to run the chat until noon for you guys in different timezones. Some Saturdays though, there is a big gap between when different people wake up and jump on. If no one is on for 20 minutes, then I usually shut down.
As long as people are on, I keep it up until noon my time.

Anonymous said...

I think that did it...I can hear the music now and no error message when I refreshed!!!

I haven't had any trouble since I've been on, and I'm using Dial Up!

Hi Kel. Hi to the brood from me. Glad you are enjoying the lake/cottage.

RMJ, I know you often go late, so I've tried to sleep in until 8 and drop by for the last hour. But, being summer, you guys are usually long gone. Maybe in the winter when people aren't in a hurry to leave the house so soon I can both sleep in and participate!

I'll introduce myself to some of the new people if you don't mind. My name is Kelly, but I'm Truly Blessed, it's true!

So many of you are unfamiliar to me (which is my fault, as I've been MIA for a couple of month's worth of chats), but we're glad you're here!

We just returned from China a month ago (on July 3) with our 2nd daughter (joining our three teenage boys). My sister, K1, joined us on both adoption trips.

We live in Michigan and go to church with Kimberley.

Shelly, Why not raffle off Gas Cards or Sheets of Stamps? Both are commodities that keep rising in price!!

If you were to raffle off chances for a $50 (or more) item at $10 each, it wouldn't take that many bidders to break even, and I'd bid $10 for a chance to win a gas card or sheet of stamps!

That's an excellent idea Karen! I'd give $10 for a $50 gas card and then when you hit a certain threshold you could raffle it off and then start over with another card and raise money a piece at a time.

Hi Patti, where are you in your quest for Maddy?

Oh, let your sister come along, it's really great to have her there (and especially great to have her COMPUTER there, in case yours crashes on the first day!)...

I love the gas card idea!! That people would buy chances on!! Me included!!!

Yes the I800A. We are the first family that has gotten approval with AAI (our agency) and it sounds like there are not many families our there overall with approval. Honestly I called the USICS about 4-5 times and personally talked with the officer. I sent her a card and picture of Eli. She was helpful. I think things will speed up for all familys it just such a new cumbersome process and form.

It's now Little Maple Walnut Crunch. I thought she needed more middle names. :)

LOVE the gas card idea ~ wonderful idea. OK... what card is common to everywhere or would I just load a visa card?

Rhonda,
It looks like a new header, but what changed?

Yeah, I should probably quit while I'm ahead, he called this morning and said "oh, by the way, I got a job offer, out of state"

Now I have all the study cabinets off and primed waiting for paint.
There goes my plans for the rest of the room.

But anyway, we got word from our agency that we could trave;l in 5-6 weeks!! I am so excited, this has been a loooong wait.

Kelly we just hit our 29 month LID yesterday...by most account we should have our referral by early next year. It has been a long journey (preaching to the choir)

She really wants to come...she is waiting to retire from the AF...if we go before she retires in January (unlikey) it could affect her security clearance which she needs for her civilian job.

Oh, love Little Maple Walnut Crunch. Good Flow to it : )

I'm a total flake and ran over to your blog thinking you changed the name.

Amy, did I say good morning to you? Meant to if I didn't.

Since Kelly introduced herself to the newbies, I will too since I've been absent a lot lately.

I am Karen "K1" (derived from birth order). I am Kelly/K3/Truly Blessed's older sister. I live in Washington state. I have no children.... Kelly and the other sibs have more than enough to keep the family going!!!

Mav is my very incredible Friend. (He doesn't like the term special)

Ha, you're cute. ;)

I've kind of lost the oomph for blogging lately. There's too much going on here.

I think the major gas chains are all over like Mobil or BP. I hate them though, posting their 'record profits' while they are sucking the life out of our auto industry and keeping us to think twice before we go anywhere.

That's great news about travel Desiree.

What's going on with you guys Rhonda?

We are trying to get set up for SN.

Good Morning ladies! Another west coast person here. I am having a hard time waking up though. I caught up on all of the comments now.

I am figuring out by reading that a few of you go to the same church and live close by. What a wonderful support group you are to each other.

Shelly,
Thanks for the 1800A update. I'm hearing it's really hard to get it processed.

HAS ANYONE HEARD ANYTHING FIRM ABOUT WHAT FAMILIES CAN DO WHO HAVE AGENCIES THAT AREN'T HAGUE COMPLIANT?

Yep, just heard from Mav. He's getting up now. You will probably be able to wish him a Good Morning in a few minutes.
