Wishing for A Good Night's Sleep with the Hubs...

Well, let me tell you about the nights around here (and no girls, it's not going to get you all giddy). My man snores. My man snores badly. I have shared this before and I got some really good advice. My husband went in last Sunday night for a sleep study. They hooked him up to all sorts of monitoring nodes and tracked what his sleeping behaviors are. We are waiting for the results. I just know that he has sleep apnia (don't know about the spelling). He literally stops breathing for a number of seconds and then jolts awake enough to start breathing again. This initiates the snoring and it's all a vicious cycle that ends up with me on the couch every night. Well, the snoring compounded with the fact that Eli likes to climb in bed with us every night.
I'm excited for the results of the study.
I'm hoping that they will have something to help us. I miss waking up with my husband. When we first were married I was a very sound sleeper and his snoring didn't bother me, but when Eli was born my mother's ear returned and I wake up instantly whenever Eli is restless. I wake up also when my older boys are up in the night, but it isn't as often with them.

Hope you get some great results from the study and you get to stay in your bed with your hubby.

I sleep like a log and have even slept throught the house alarm. That said if Lily as much as coughs I am wide awake...but only she has that power over me.

Hope you get results soon. My hubs goes in and out of snoring episodes. I notice since moving down South his snoring is better but when he snores - it flips me out- I can't sleep and I find myself pushing him to turn over. I know what you mean about light sleeping with a child - no such thing as deep sleep.

Yes, snoring is a problem. A big problem. I sympathise. My DH does snore, but luckily ear plugs block the noise out. That will be interesting to see what the study says. Keep us posted.

I hope they can come up with a remedy for both of your sake, and that before you know it you are waking up on the same pillow....

My 7 year old went through a sleep study for his allergies and possible removal of his adenoids.
(I posted my version of it b/c I had to stay with him) anyhow- our results were - "he is snoring but not waking up" that was it. He is on a few nose sprays at night and he seems better. I hope you get more informative results.

I really hope your guy gets help with his snoring!I am a super light sleeper since having children and I would really struggle if my husband began snoring because, like you, I would be awake! Your blog looks BEAUTIFUL!!! Wish I could do the swap, but my baba is home from China :)!

I have sleep apnea. Once you get used to the machine, it's not too bad.
They do have a surgery that is quite painful and takes about 3 months to heal up from but is a very successful cure. My friend had it done and doesn't regret it a bit. Since my husband works third shift and I sleep alone 5 nights a week, I am a bit reluctant to cause myself intentional pain. They actually remove the uvula because that is what collapses into the throat when you sleep and cuts off your air. On the plus side, my friend said it was a great diet plan!! He lost 30#!!!

Good luck. I know how important it is to wake up with your loved one.
I am anxious for my dh to retire so we can sleep together!!!

My friend who is only 35 and thin just had a sleep study and she found out that she has apnea also. It is a scary thing. I hope you can figure out what is going on with your hubby-- that woudl scare me to death if my hub stopped breathing many times a night-- wow! Anyway, good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Oh Kimberley my hubby snores so loud (he also has sleep apnea)I was missing out on great sleep. I was sleeping on the couch so I could get a few winks.
I finally invested in some cheap wax ear plugs, Oh my goodness they fantastic, I can't hear a thing, he snores,I'm not tapping him to roll over and the best thing I wake up to him every morning rested!!
Worth a try and they are dirt cheap, $5.00.

You are so fortunate YOUR husband was willing to go in for the sleep study! My husband has sleep apnea, too (not officially ever diagnosed, but I have timed his apneic episodes up to TWENTY SECONDS multiple times through the night)...and he, too, rattles the rafters with his snoring...particularly the loud "gasp" snore that signals he is actually starting to get a bit of AIR back into his lungs again. Drives me crazy and it has gone on for years and years and years now. But, he is STUBBORN and won't go to the doctor for diagnosis and treatment. I can't help but wonder how many brain cells are shriveling up from oxygen deprivation...keeps me awake at night!!!

Glad your husband isn't as stubborn as mine!

Kimberley, I'm hoping they figure out his issues. For the record, it is spelled "apnea". He will most likely be put on a c-pap machine which is a device that he will wear on his face (over his nose and/or mouth) and it helps "push" the air into his lungs. When he sleeps his tongue falls back in his throat and cuts off the air which is what the sound that a snore makes. It is obstructing the airway and he most likely will get MUCH better rest after he wears this for a while. Is he the type that falls asleep while watching TV? A lot of times these people are so sleep deprived that they really notice a HUGE difference in their energy level after wearing the c-pap. Best of luck to you both. Sleep is one of my favorite things so I would really be suffering if I were in your shoes.

I hope they can fix it! My mom sleeps with earplugs because my dad snores so loud, but I wouldn't want to do that with little kids in the house.

Oh, I am so with you! many nights I have laid there thinking how wonderful it would be if I could just take his socks and stuff them in his mouth...of course I don't want to harm him, just quiet the storm a bit!

Hoping the rest comes quickly!
