What Am I Reading?..I think I Need a List to Work Off Of.

Right now I am reading 'The Lost Daughters of China' to Tim. He doesn't like to read really, unless it is a techy magazine, but he is enjoying me reading this book out loud. After that, I'm stumped. So.....What is the best book you have read over the past 12 months and why?? I will try to pick my books off of the list. It may take a while for me to work my way through them, but I'll bet the list will be incredible. Maybe some of you can join in if you want and read some of them too.

Oooooh, I like this one! I was at a bookstore the other day wishing that I knew what was good to read at the moment. Fun fact: teachers read (for pleasure) the least of all professions...
Best book I have read in the past twelve months: "Twenty Things Adopted Kids Wish Their Adoptive Parents Knew".

If you're wanting to read more about Chinese Culture, I enjoyed Wild Swans. It's about 3 generations of women (mother, daughter and granddaughter), and the rise of communism. It's a true story.

I liked lost daughters, I'd read it again if I knew who I loaned it too.
Life of Pi and Lovely Bones were great books...
not China related...

I really enjoyed Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It was very good.

I think Kathy is right. I don't read nearly as much during the school year as I do in the summer. Thanks for the fun fact Kathy. Now I don't feel so bad. I guess it is all the textbook and papers I read during the year. :)

My mom just gave me a copy of Wild Swans. She really enjoyed that book just as Mommy Spice suggested.

Thanks for this list. I am going to follow along, too.

I loved "Loved By Choice: True Stories that Celebrate Adoption". It's the best book about adoption I've read - and I've read a lot of them!

Also Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur.

I also read The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and actually lent it out about 7 times and had everyone who read it sign their name on it which was kinda cool, like Steffie b. I found my purpose.
I also read Battlefield of The Mind by Joyce Meyer and learned alot about myself....it was real growth for me. I tend to really go for the self help books. Happy reading I really like the graphic you used on your post it is really cool. Oh and the Bible of course mind you I haven't come close to reading the whole thing...I'm still working on that one!

The Lost Daughters is a very good one. I'll have to take a look through my bookcase though, I read A LOT!

I'll make sort of a bizarre recommendation, but what I think is a good one. Two Old Women, by Velma Wallis. It's an Athabaskan legend that takes place in Alaska about two elder women who were abandoned by their clan. It's a total story of survival and friendship and the ultimate "girl power" story. I loved it!

I just picked up 2 books at Target for my trip tomorrow. "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and "The Nanny Diaries". I might be one of the last women on earth who haven't read these yet, but I needed some mindless entertainment on my long flight and I can't concentrate on anything too deep right now. So, just in case you haven't read them either, I'll let you know how they turn out!

I am very excited about a book I just bought..."Growing Strong Daughters--Encouraging Girls to Become All They're Meant To Be," by Lisa Graham McMinn.

P.S. Love the picture of the butterfuly book, I am sooo stealing that!

I love anything by Beverly Lewis, Karen Kingsbury, Kristen Heitzmann, Lynn Austin (she wrote an awesome series set in the Civil War Era), and my all time favorite Elizabeth Frances. You will find all of these authors in the Christian Fictional section. Karen Kingsbury wrote a book "A Treasury of Adoption Miracles". It made me, who never cries, cry. :) Great stories.

Gosh, I could go on and on. I LOVE to read. :) The book "QI" by David Aikman was also an interesting book about China, nothing about adoption though.

Happy reading! :)
