Well I'm puttering around the house doing little things here and there.
Hubby and I are going camping for the night so I'm getting a few things together for that.
So is it Labor Day weekend for you guys too? I know Thanksgiving and a few other holidays are different for the US than for Canada.
Tell Sophia I said HI.

Deb said...

I may go to the boardwalk later too and see if there are any good Labor Day sales. Labor Day is like Black Friday there!

redmaryjanes said...

I will tell her, now she's doing puzzles.
It is Labor Day Weekend here. So, everyone relaxing and cooking out. We're going to have some wonderful weather, so that is good. It's been colder here this past week.
I'm ready for fall.

I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ARE GOING TO CHINA!

I am going to send your book swap book out with hair bows. Sorry I am so late with it, I've had it for a couple of weeks now.

Deb said...

Cool that works!

redmaryjanes said...

I love great sales. I've been trying to get the kids' fall clothes together and buy what they need.

Lisa said...

Hi I'm here. I've never done one of these before but I'm always up for a good party!

Lisa

redmaryjanes said...

Good Morning Lisa! Welcome to the shower. I'm going to go over and look at your blog. If you scroll up a little bit you can see a comment about an easier way to comment and see the comments.

Deb said...

Oh so it is Labor Day hey. Cool.

It's been surprisingly warm here for the 1st of September. It's usually cooler here by the middle of August.
I'm really for fall too. It's my fav season.

Yup! Finally going to China! I can hardly believe it either!

Can't wait to see what book you sent! I have to get hubby to build her a little bookshelf for her room.

redmaryjanes said...

I am sending a book about a little girl who writes notes back and for with a Mermaid. There are little flaps in the pages and if you open them, you can see take out and read the notes the mermaid writes back to the little girl.

redmaryjanes said...

Lisa,
You have beautiful children! Are you going to sell those tutu's??? they are darling.

Deb said...

Hi Lisa! Welcome!
I was admiring your pics of Mini yesterday and showing my hubby, he couldn't believe you just used a sheet!

He ordered my birthday present early. I'm pretty excited about it too! He got me a 50D Canon with all the accessories. Can't wait to take pics of Jazmyn with it!

Deb said...

RJM aww that sounds darling and fun that it has little notes too!

redmaryjanes said...

I thought it was really cute and different when I saw it. Jazmyn probably won't enjoy it until she is older, but it's cute.

Lisa said...

This is soooo cool. I'm soooo excited for you Deb!!!! I can't wait to see pics and hear all about your trip.

redmaryjanes said...

Are you flying into Beijing first? We were there for two weeks since Sophia's orphanage was in Beijing.

Deb said...

Yes we are flying to Beijing then Heilongjiang the next day. I kinda wish we would have booked a day earlier to catch our breath. But that's fine. I have a bag ready so I don't have to worry about packing for the in country flight when we get there.

What province were your children from Lisa and RJM?

redmaryjanes said...

Sophia was from Beijing. We didn't have too hard of a time with the time adjustment when we arrived in China, but we had a tough time when we got home adjusting back.

Make sure you take Tylenol an hour before you land. Health officials will board your plane and take everyone's temperature before you can deplane.

Deb said...

Yes I remember someone gave me that tip.
I'll put a reminder on my Blackberry and it will remind us.

I'm expecting the adjustment when we get back home will be a challenge.

Lisa said...

It was sooo much fun doing the "shoot". The trick was to bribe her with food. She loves bananas.

redmaryjanes said...

Get a Z-Pack too. Tim and I got very sick there. I believe we had swine flu. I took my Z-pack right away and was fine. Tim waited and was miserable. We had no trouble getting them from our doctors, they set us up right away when they heard we were going to China.

redmaryjanes said...

Lisa,
I scrolled through your posts, you have the cutest little girls~
How long ago were you in China?

Deb said...

Lisa, lol plus fresh from bed bright-eyed-and-bushey-tailed. She is a cutie!

RJM, I've never heard of a z-pack. I wonder if we have that here in Canada. I'll look into it.

Lisa said...

I'm sorry I'm having trouble with refreshing sometimes.

Yes, I'm starting a small business selling hair bows and tutus. The pics are a couple that I will be selling.

Deb do you stop over in Toronto to go to Beijing? If so how long etc. I'm here in the Toronto area and I'd love to see you either going or coming home.

Lisa said...

Thanks. We adopted the oldest Kaileigh in 1998 and she was 8.5 months old and Sienna was adopted in 2008 at 14 months old.

Lisa said...

Kaileigh is from Hebei and Sienna is from Guangxi. The opposite ends of the country.

Deb said...

Lisa, we are Charlottetown to Montreal,to Toronto for 5 hours then Beijing.
On the way home on the 24th we are in TO for the night as there is no flight to Charlottetown until the next day. I'd love to see you!

Lisa said...

Deb, e-mail me off line later and let me know your arrival and depart times and we can work something out. We'd love to see you guys if it all works out.

redmaryjanes said...

How cool is that? I think it would be great for you two. Lisa, you would be the first to see Jazmyn :)

Lisa said...

RMJ you're right. I never of thought of that. LOL It's been a long time since I've done a welcome home to Canada run. I live about 20min from the airport so it's great!!!

Deb said...

Lisa, OK I'll have to check the itinery to be sure of times. If I don't e-mail you send me a reminder ok.
Wow your girls really were from different poles weren't they!

RJM, that would be VERY cool indeed.

Deb said...

RJM, So you think you had the Swine Flu? and the z-pack helped to hide it? Is it a liquid, pill or needle?

Lisa said...

No problem Deb. This is sooooo exciting. It brings back so many happy, exciting memeories of going to get my girls.

RMJ I was just looking through your blog and wow what an incredible family you have raised.

Deb said...

Lisa, I bet it stirs up momories.

so when is your Forever Family days anniversary?

RJM, wow this Christmas is going to be a new and fun one for us with our girls finally home eh?

redmaryjanes said...

Sorry guys, I'm here. Tim put the kids in the tub and I got them dressed quickly.

Lisa said...

Kaileigh's is May 11th which was the day after mothers day that year and Sienna's is March 10 2008.

Yes you ladies will have an even more special Christmas.

redmaryjanes said...

Thank you so much about our family. It feels so good now to have that feeling in my heart that my family is complete. I am glad that all of the waiting is over.

Deb said...

RJM, That's ok, I've done some painting, cleaning and BBQing!
I have a very happy puppy sitting under my BBQ right now. I thought I'd cook bacon on a frying pan out there instead of greasing up my stovetop,,,,,now my deck has bacon fat splatters on it....hence the happy puppy ;O)

redmaryjanes said...

One of the little girls from Sophia's orphanage was sick and it spread among our group like wildfire. Very very contagious. The symptoms were the same as swine flu and one girl in our group tested positive when she got back into the US. We were never formally tested, I was fine within 2 days because I took the Z Pack right away. Tim waited to take his and was sicker than a dog with aches and a very high fever. The Z-Pack won't help if you wait too long to take it. It is the medication used to treat swine flu.

Lisa said...

I remember reading your blog when you got your referral and the first thing you noticed was her little Red Mary Jane shoes. I completely lost it. Tear and snot were flying everywhere. God was all over that adoption wasn't He? I remember how God used those simple red shoes to show others perhaps that were reading that He does exsist and He's there every step of this journey. It's so nice to see how far you DD has come.

redmaryjanes said...

My SW brought one and took it in Beijing because she was starting to develop bronchitis and it worked like a charm. The pollution in Beijing is bad sometimes and you can start to feel it in your lungs after a couple of days.

redmaryjanes said...

It was amazing. The second set of photos we received had her in red maryjanes too.

I cannot believe how well she is doing. You would never guess she was even adopted (except at night). She will not go to her bed or to sleep unless I am with her. Nighttime is scary for her. I don't know if that is when memories of being left come back to her or if something happened to her at night. It seems to be pretty common with adopted little ones though.

Well, ladies I hate to leave a good party but I should go and feed my children and put Sienna down for her nap. It was a pleasure being here and Deb I'll e-mail you with my phone number and a reminder so we can connect.

RMJ thank you for hosting this little get together and I'll be sure to pop on over more often. Please feel free to drop by my blog now and then. I haven't paid too much attention to it lately as I'm desperately trying to figure out how to build a website for my new business.

Have a great afternoon ladies.

Michelle said...

Oh there it is. Hi Debz! Did you receive my package yet? I sent it 7 days ago but I don't know how long it takes to get from CA to Canada

redmaryjanes said...

Hi there Michelle~

Deb said...

Lisa, Thanks for stopping by. It was nice to chat. I'll be waiting for your e-mail with your #.

Michelle, No I didn't get it yet, maybe next week. I remember sending a postcard home from there last year and it took like 2 weeks so it may not get here for a few days yet.

Michelle said...

Debz- Ah. SO maybe another week. I was hoping to get it to you before you left for China but I guess it will be waiting for you when you get home. The move really messed up a lot of my plans to be more organized!

redmaryjanes said...

How is your wait going Michelle? How much longer do you think you have?

Michelle said...

Debz-my toe was feeling much much better so I decided to start up my exercise routine again. Apparently it was too soon because I stepped on it wrong and now it's hurting again. Not as much as when I first broke it, but enough that I need to stay off of it again. I'm always rushing things and not giving them enough time to heal. When will I learn? :)

Deb said...

Michelle, Ya moving does that to people. Are you all settled?

Michelle said...

Kimberley- the current projection right now for people with an Oct. 06 LID is.............wait for it..............2013!!!!

That would put our total wait at 7 years. Sigh. That is based on 2 day batches.

Michelle said...

Yes Debz, we are finally settling in. Still a few boxes here and there but we painted and have started putting things on the walls and it; starting to fee a little more homey.

Tiny. But homey :)

redmaryjanes said...

Have you guys thought about SN at all?
I know that it's a leap of faith.
When we were at the white swan, I didn't see any family's that weren't SN. I think that is the direction China is pushing to.
I know some agencies don't offer it though.

Michelle said...

Yes, we have discussed SN in length many, many times.

Our agency doesn't do SN so we would have to switch. That in itself causes me to panic. We let our paperwork expire, AND we don't qualify under the new rules(we are supposed to be grandfathered in, but it still worries me) AND my husband doesn't have a job so I am very leery of switching right now.

What it really comes down to though is that my husband is scared. He said it i was our second(or third) child he would be more willing. But because it's our first go round at being parents he is afraid to take on anything more than the "normal" issues that a child from an orphanage would come with.

We have had so many talks about it and he just won't budge so it really isn't an option for us right now. :(

redmaryjanes said...

Well, that's ok. I think it's good that your husband is being really honest with himself about what he's comfortable with.

Deb said...

Yes understandable. I wouldn't want to switch agencies if I thought I didn't qualify under the new regulations either.

Michelle said...

Part of me agrees but the other part just isn't sure I can wait that much longer. I have friends who switched to the Foster program and they expect to get a placement in the next 6 months.

I can't imagine my life without Sophie but I just want to be a Mom! The holidays are coming up again and they are so hard. If my husband could find a job, we could go forward with the foster program and stay in line for China too.

redmaryjanes said...

I think that's a great idea...to move forward with foster care and hopefully find a little one that way and then still be in line for Sophie in China. That is what I would do.

Michelle said...

I know. That's what I hope to do. We can't start any paperwork until he finds a job though and there don't seem to be any prospects in sight

Deb said...

I have a friend who does foster care and has practally raised one to adulthood, he comes back to visit them all the time, in the meantime they adopted 2 from China and still continue with foster care. Shame for you to have all this love to share and no where to direct it. Foster care is very fulfilling, I think it's something I'd like to look into once we are settled with Jazmyn.

redmaryjanes said...

Yes, the economy here is terrible. Our unemployment rate is so high in Michigan. Tim's job is at an automotive supplier, so we never know what the future holds for us.

Michelle said...

I'm off to have lunch with my Dad. Thanks for the chat Kimberley!

And Debz-Have a safe trip if I don't talk to you before then!!

Deb said...

Not to change the subject, please carry on but have either of you seen the childrens show "Big and Small"...my grandbutton loves it and I'd like to find some plush toys or DVD's but no one seems to carry it yet...have you seen anthing around?

redmaryjanes said...

I haven't heard of it. Sophia is into Ni Hao Kai Lan and Disney Princesses. It sounds educational, so I'd love to see it.

redmaryjanes said...

Have a great weekend Michelle~

Deb said...

Thanks Michelle, enjoy your date with your dad.

RJM, ya I'm a little head over heals over Kia Lan too.

redmaryjanes said...

I think it's a great show because Sophia recognizes the Chinese words in it. It's something she can watch and catch a little of what is going on and then learn some new English too.

redmaryjanes said...

I can't wait to see what Jazmyn looks like when you get her.
I expected Sophia to look like our latest photos which were fairly new, but her hair was a lot longer and she was bigger than I thought she would be.
I am so happy for you. It seems like quite a few new babes will be coming home over the next few months.

Deb said...

The last pics we got her hair was a little longer so I was happy to see that. I know what you mean though, I think she will be 10 times cuter in person than her pics, if that's possible.
It's so nice to see some of the ladies who I've started blogging with 3 years ago finally get their children. I do feel for the ones who are in the thick of things right now....I know I would wait if I had to I'm just grateful to the Lord I don't "have' to anymore.

redmaryjanes said...

Sophis is much cuter in person that photos. She is not really photogenic for me. Someone who is a good photographer can capture her, but I seem to struggle with it.

I am so glad we are done too. I truly do not believe there is going to be a speed up. I think China is happy to see its SN program becoming so successful and that is where the referrals are coming from.
They have such a gender imbalance now that I think they will start keeping the girls who are healthy. It breaks my heart. There are 5,000 children in Sophia's orphanage in Beijing. Who knows how many total in China.

Deb said...

It would be awesome if things did speed up. I would love to submit another file as soon as we can but if it's still at a snails pace I may consider domestic.
As for the number of orphans in China the last stat I seen was 600,000....sad isn't it. Sophia came from a big orphanage if there are 5000 in hers! Wow thats a lot of care right there!

redmaryjanes said...

A lot of people are looking at foster care, Russia or Haiti and Ethiopia.
I would go to China again, but only SN.

redmaryjanes said...

I see so many ladies coming by from your blog on the counter, but they aren't dropping in. :)

redmaryjanes said...

You are going to have such a great time. I think it's cooling down some in Beijing too right now. Hopefully it won't be so hot when you are in China.

Deb said...

Ya I packed pants, capris and shorts so hopefully I'm covered no matter what the weather is.

Well if there are ladies coming over I hope they at least left a message over there :o)

Anyway I'm ok to pack up early if you are. I have a few things I'd like to try to do before we head to the camp ground.
Thank you for hosting, I appreciate it and it was fun.

redmaryjanes said...

Absolutely.
I can put a note on here for people to leave comments if they need your address.
I think it went well considering it's Labor Day Weekend.

Have a great trip. You will love Guangzhou, it reminded me of New Orleans.

Deb said...

Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing many wonderful sights!
Blessings on your day Kimberley,
