Our Daughter Had Heart Surgery 2 Weeks Ago...And We Just Found Out

I want to encourage everyone who wishes to send a care package to their child to do it through Ann and Red Thread China. She was able to get us updated photos of Sophia(and believe it or not she has another pair of red maryjanes on in these photos too). And she also was able to find out that Sophia had her heart repair surgery two weeks ago and is recovering well.
I was just in shock over this news. We were planning to do her surgery here when we brought her home. No one had said a word to us and when I spoke with my SW on Friday, she said they were not aware that it had happened.
I just can't stop thinking about my girl and how scary it must be to go through open heart surgery. She is old enough to understand that something very significant has happened and that she has been in pain and has a scar on her chest.
I hope that our care package brings her comfort.
Please pray for our girl.

Isn't that odd that they did her surgery knowing she had a family coming? I know you wanted to be with her and soon God will unite her with you and you can hold her for hours until she falls asleep in your arms. Praying for all of you...praying the Lord places His arms around little Sohia Jane and she feels His love.

I have heard (via you) about the Red Thread China and shown Mike about it and I think we will use her also... thanks for the link...
Hugs to ya... things have been insane (in a good way here) and don't get the chance to drop by as often as I did...

Oh my...how horrible not to be able to be there plus not knowing that she is having surgery! I am sure you are just on pins and needles now, she is in our prayer, thank goodness for Anne.

Thinking a lot of you and Steffie lately and just astound that your your kids will know each other and live in the same (sort of) vincinity. Take care and love the color of the room.

Kimberley...not sure if Robin mentioned this to you or not, but the same EXACT thing happened with our Ella. Shock was an understatement of how we felt! Why could they not have waited a few more weeks for us? Please e-mail me if you would like to chat. I could go on and on about this.

If they did the surgery it was because they felt she needed it now. They do a very good job on the heart in China. They have very good doctors. Also she was with people who speak her language and probably comforted her very well. It would have been more scary for her to move to the USA and have surgery with a new everything!!! I have two heart babies. Kids can recover very fast from surgery. They often come home from the hospital in less then 10 days. I'm so sorry you had to find out this way, but it really may have been for the best. The Chinese nannies are very loving. I think she was probably not alone. Hopefully you can concentrate on just adjusting to being a new family...that’s scary enough for your girl! I’ll pray she is healthy and really ready to begin her new life with you soon.

Kimberley, Thankfully you know that she is doing well now! The exact same thing happened to us too. Olivia had actually had her surgery when we first saw her photo but all of her records indicated that she had not had it. Even our pictures showed that she had not had the surgery so they were obviously old.

You are so right to recomend going through Ann to find out information. I'm sure your care package is just what Sophia needs right now! Perfect timing!

Our daughter had heart surgery before we brought her home (the month before we were matched actually). We found out when we met her. My heart aches to think that she went through that without us to hold her. I will be praying for your Sophia, that God will continue to surround her with his great love. Hugs :)

I am also praying for Sophia. I understand this feeling all too well...

China operated on Sofia's lip 5 days before we went to get her and my heart just sank. Unfortunately, they do not ask first, they just do it. After we got home, I was happy they did such a good job but still would have rather have been there with my girl when she had to experience that.

I hope it all works out in the long run and I am praying your TA arrives soon.

Hugs,
jonni

my heart goes out to you.. when we were waiting for our son, daniel a couple years ago.. we felt something was going on. but everyone (agency, ccaa ect) told us all is well. Daniel had cleft palate/lip. When we arrived in China and he was chomping on some hard candy my momma instincts went nuts!! THEN very little was coming out of his nose, not typical of a cl child.. so i asked him to open his mouth for me.. WOWOWOWOW his cleft was repaired and there was a stitch right there!
I felt... weird. I didn't know how to feel. I was shocked. I was thrilled. I was bewildered. We had our appts set up. we were ready to go at John Hopkins. we were reading and preparing the girls for what he would look like..
oh brother. in the end.. i am thankful. but at the time.. i was mad no one knew.
sorry for the long post. I just wanted you to know my heart goes out to you and your daughter. I will be praying for her and that kind, sweet loving hands are holding her.

this is a weird thing for me to offer -- but you're used to my oddness by now -- If you ever want pics of my kids showing their scars from the ASD/VSD surgeries, I would be happy to send them to you. I know it gives me comfort to know that they BOTH have these "zippers" as we call them, so they have a sense of normalcy when they see they're just like brother/sister in yet another way. If you feel it would help SJ in any way, just let me know.

On another note, our pediatric cardiologist has cleared both kids and says they are 100% well, China did a great job on both surgeries (different provinces/different doctors).

Be assured ;)
