How did I spend the weekend?.....I was getting ready for my big day!

Oh yes ladies, I have been glued to The Food Network, I LOVE The Food Network. I love to cook and bake and the holidays are my hayday. I don't get stressed, I get all excited to find new recipes and try new things.
Last year I was disappointed with my turkey. It didn't brown the way I wanted it to, so I am going to try something new this year. I asked Tim to find a turkey fryer for me and he did. So, for the first time we are going to fry a turkey. (Hopefully we won't burn the house down :) I'm pretty excited about it. I saw a turkey rub for a fried turkey that looks great on Paula Dean's Thanksgiving special.
Oh yes....I LOVE PAULA DEAN! She's by far my favorite on the network. I have several of her cookbooks.
I did some shopping and picked up my sweet potatoes but forgot I need more brown sugar. I got the celery for my stuffing but I'm having a hard time finding fresh sage for it. We know where we want to get the turkey, but we still need to pick it up. I can't seem to find a large butternut squash, just tiny ones. And I haven't decided on dessert yet. Any good suggestions?

This is my mother in law's favorite cookie (Powered Sugar Pecan Balls) and I bring it every year that we celebrate our Thanksgiving in Detroit.

1 c. soft butter (do not substitute butter for margarine - it has to be butter)
3/4 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1-2 c. powdered sugar for rolling

Cream butter and gradually add powdered sugar. Add vanilla, creaming well. Gradually add flour and nuts. Mix thoroughly. Shape into 1 to 1 1/2 inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 300 degrees for 35 minutes. Bottoms should be slightly brown. Tops will probably still be white.

While still warm, roll in sifted powdered sugar. Then immediately roll in powdered sugar again. Sift some more powdered sugar on top. Cool.

My friends do the turkey fryer and LOVE it. Hope you're as happy as they are.

As for large b-nut squash, have you tried FH Foods? I was there Saturday and they've got some pretty big ones.

Wishing you a fantastic Thanksgiving...!

Can we come to YOUR house?! LOL!!
In all my 25 years of being married, I have NEVER cooked a turkey! Shameful, isn't it? Or am I just lucky? lol!

Well, this year, I am STILL NOT cooking on T-Day, lol, but I did buy a 6 lb. turkey breast & plan on having our very first Thanksgiving dinner on Friday...just the 3 of us... I want to make sure I start making memories for Kiara! :) Now, if only I knew what the heck to do with said turkey breast! lol!

And as far as dessert goes...did you check out Lisa's "Half Gaelic Half Garlic" site? She had an amazing recipe for bananas & sweet potatoes that I am DEFINITELY making on Friday too! Sounds SCRUMPTIOUS!!!

Have a WONDERFUL holiday!!
