The gift that has inspired me to tell the story of Sophia's Sisters...

I recently received an e-mail from Sharon at 'Bai Li Makes 3' asking me if I would like for her to send a pair of Bailey's red maryjanes that she had outgrown for Sophia. The e-mail just really touched my heart. The first thing that came to my mind was what a 'big sister' type of thing this was, for Bailey to hand her shoes down to Sophia and how in a way our girls are sisters. Thank you so much Sharon, your gift means so much.
When I held the little shoes, I started to think about all of us and I just sat and cried. I thought about all of the stories and the pain and the sacrifice and how we women have joined together on so many occassions to raise funds, pray and support each other. I thought of the babies who have come home and tried to remember them all and the feelings in my heart when I held little Ella for the first time...the first little girl whose story I followed from the beginning who I have actually been able to meet soon after her arrival home.
I have been sitting here waiting for my great story to begin, for Sophia to come home so I can start that phase of my life...the phase where I am Sophia's mother.
But my story has already begun...it is the story of all of us and I am going to start a scrapbook of us. I want Sophia to know about all of you. I have saved every card and every letter that has been sent to me. I have photos from Christmas cards and notes. I am going to print out pages of your blogs and put them all together in a book with your stories and your notes and photos. I want my daughter to know about all of you and things that we did together to bring our children home. It will be the story of Sophia's sisters.

Oh, What a beautiful post. I have been so touched by all the people who's blogs I read, and the way everyone is there for each other. How you all help each other through the hard and dark times and celebrate the Great times.. People are accepted no matter what and share their lives with others. I have been grateful for the comments my daughter has received and the wonderful people she has met on her journey to Lauren and wish only lots of happiness to all in this community.... Happy and Honored to be able to meet you all thru your blogs, especially you Kim..... Linda

This is beautiful. You know, people often include a "Friends Like Me" page in their childrens lifebooks. This will be a "Friend Like Me" book.

You have made my day with this post Kimberley. And you are right, your story has begun for Sophia. I know of no other community of friends like this or community that is as supportive or truly "gets" the pain of the wait and the incredible joy too when you receive your referral and meet your child for the first time. Personally, I could have never got
through the wait and post adoption issues without this group of women.

And I can't wait to see those red mary janes on Sophia!

That is a wonderful idea! I don't know how I would have made it some days without so many people who 'get it'. :o)

The shoes are adorable!

Right before we got ready to board that plane for China, my mother presented me with a notebook filled with every email I had sent her regarding Josie. I was extremely touched thinking Josie's grandmother had been saving every tiny bit of information about her, even before we knew "who" she was. This is such a wonderful gift to give your daughter some day.

FYI. If you haven't checked out http://blurb.com, they will take your blog and turn it into a hard bound book. Very cool.

What a beautiful gift to treasure!! How fun would it be to keep handing down those shoes...except I would have a difficult time parting with them. heehee The adoption journey is so magical...filled with amazing miraces, stories, and friendships. I'm trying to document all that I can for Mia Hope because the adoption community has written her a beautiful story of love, faith, hope, and generosity. Its a story that is best understood by the adoption community...which is one amazing community!! I hope that one day I can sit down with you and your Sophia and look thru your scrapbook!

How true, Kimberley, your story HAS begun...And it's a beautiful one. I'm so happy our paths have crossed here - this adoption community is comprised of some of the most truly amazing women I've ever known.
I will continue to pray for your family and will be rejoicing with you are united with Sophia - your seventh diamond.

This is going to be a real keepsake for Sophia, that's for sure.

And I agree about the Blurb book (but it doesn't slurp Blogger comments). That's what I'm doing with my first two blogs for Katie.

BTW, I have three shoeboxes ready to go. Can I give them to you at church on Sunday? Also, Ella is getting dedicated on Sunday at 2:00. If you'd like to come, we'd love to have you.

That totally made me tear up just now.

Making a scrapbook for all those things....what a great idea. I love that.

P.S. Your blog makes my web browser crash every time I go to it, so I have not been able to comment. I can read it through bloglines, but every time I come here to comment it crashes. I have a Mac. I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I thought possibly others were having the same problem. Or maybe it's just me :)

What a sweet, sweet post. You have brought me to tears. I am so honoured to have made a connection with you and be able to join you in your journey. Thank you for always being there when one of us in the adoption community needs you.

We share the joys and the pains of this emotional endeavour with each other and rely on each other more than any support group I know of. I am so touched by the amazing ladies I have met so far. I look forward to continuing friendships and making new ones all the while I have the opportunity to join you all on this amazing ride.

Smiles! :o)

Oooo, I have tears in my eyes! This post is just wonderful. I have often thought of how each one of us has come to our daughters from China. We each have a different story, but each story is just as important and meaningful as the next. I have come so close to posting how we came to be Mia's family ~ it is our story and amazes me whenever I have a quiet moment to reflect... This would make a great post or tag for everyone to tell their story!

I too am crying just reading your post Kimberly. I have made so many wonderful friends/sisters during the blog adventure to our children in China. I think about each of you everyday and don't know who or how I would be today 31 months later if I did not have all of your hands to hold during this time. I thank God for each of you and I thank him for putting each of you in my path to my Franceska. Nothing is by chance or coincidence, for everything has a reason and meaning. Your scrapbook is a beautiful one.
Love and blessings, Kristy
