Starting An Adoption Ministry at Church...

I am working closely with Kelly/Truly Blessed and a couple of other ladies at our church to begin an adoption ministry. We go to a large church where there are so many families who have adopted and yet we have no support group. Our church has been leary in the past of allowing one to be started and is just now giving us the green light to meet at the church. We are trying to put together a very firm foundation for our group and good goals that are attainable and a timeline for when we would like to have certain projects ready to launch. We are building a list of adoptive families and are hoping that we can encourage our church to see the need for this ministry.
If any of you have started a group at your church, I would be very interested to see how you did it. Any advice would be cherished. You can e-mail me at timnkim@ gmail.com. We have Shaohannah's Hope info.
Please pray for us.

That is awesome! I haven't started one, but we do have one at our church. The couple who started it have a blog: www.ampoche.blogspot.com
There will be a link on that to the ministry's website (His Heart for Orphans). She is a really awesome mom and would be more than willing to share her thoughts with you.

What a great idea. I would love to be a part of that...if I only lived a bit closer. We don't have many adoptive families at our church.

Yeah for you!! I'm glad to hear you got the green light. Stefanie at Ni Hao Y'All posted a similar request a few months ago and she received several comments from those that have done something at their church. (I know this, because I read the responses because my husband and I have also considered it.) Check in her archives. You might find something there that is helpful!

We started an orphan ministry at our church using materials from Family Life. Thty have a "starter pack" that has some wonderful resources. I would HIGHLY recommend it!

Oh my gosh Kimberly where do you get these headers from???? Purple is my favorite color!

Anyway I think the Adoption support group is an awesome idea. God for you.

Our daughter Astrud, you know the one...the one that would make the perfect DIL for yourself,(hehehe) is starting her own bible study at school. She came up with this all on her own without any coaxing from anyone. We are so proud of her!! God will bless you in so many ways thru this group Kimberly.

love, Kristy

I've thought about an adoption support group at our church too, but don't know how to start. Would you be willing to share the information you have gathered (I know, I have no idea where you get all your energy from!). There must be information and blogs on this already.... Just need to find the time. I think it is a great idea and hoping you will share your "start up" manual!

Dear Kim, please add my blog to your Halloween blog contest. I was so sure you would have seen your daughter by September...or have you? I hope it's soon!

I'm amazed your Church wouldn't be more supportive and think it's grea you are taking the bull by the horns!

Here I don't think there would ever be a need, sadly, with only 200 adoptions (predicted total for 2008) in a country of 66 million let's just say you don't exactly have other families on your doorstep!

Good Luck!

HI there! I somehow found your blog. I actually JUST started a church ministry. I am in the exact same place as you...larger church...green light wasn't 100% there at 1st but now it is. I am still really struggling. The ministry has been successful so far, but I don't have much groundwork laid...I have some couples that are interested but it seems like everyone is so busy...anyway, I would be glad to share with you what I am doing. There are TONS of great frameworks out there already. The best resource I found was Tapestry Ministries at Irving Bible Church. An incredible ministry.
